Just Walk!

Some advice for any one is who is ever in their predicament, the simple solution is to take whatever food and water you have, and walk back on the road you drove in on. Start walking ASAP. Whether its 50 miles or 80 miles, young people CAN walk that far on a road in flat terrain. Walk all night if the heat is too great. You may reach cell range or another vehicle the closer you get to pavement. Any one who thinks this can't by done, watch "Alive" (the film about the Uraguayan rugby team stranded on a glacier at 15000 feet in the Andes after their plane crashed).

Also, driving that far off pavement without at least several gallons of water and 3-4 days supply of food is playing Russian Roulette. The excursion "leader" for a complete fool. Making some simple preparations and making smart choices saves lives in these situations.

I know, they should have just followed the road back and walked the 80 miles. They are some lazy mofos. And walking at night would have reduced a lot of the exhaustion. So if they would have slept for 8 hours and walked for 16, while walking even just 2 miles per hour, they would have made it back in 2 and a half days. Damn idiots if you ask me.

This movie was so stupid. The characters were unlikable and stupid. And the acting was terrible, expect for the one that gets poisoned and dies. That person was the only one that seemed like he was exhausted and dehydrated, the others bad acting just looked as though they were sleepy. God they can not act!

Agreed, and young people walking at an even pace can cover 3.5 miles per hour, without any undo exertion. The adrenaline produced by the body in these situations also helps tremendously. They didn't even need to walk 80 miles, just into cellular range.

The only redeeming thing in this film, is that it shows how NOT to react in the situation they were in. Maybe this will save a few lives someday.

Who's High Pitch?

I agree but only because by walking toward the road they increase their chances of getting a cell signal and/or seeing another car. Walking 80 miles in the desert with very limited water and no food just wasn't going to happen... regardless of their age and fitness level. Even a marathon runner would have crapped out after a few miles without proper hydration. That is just basic human physiology.

You would be surprised what humans are capable of in survival situations, especially young people. Assuming they had 2 liters each of water, they could walk a great distance and cover a lot of ground, especially on an existing road. Ration the water and whatever food, and its possible. The alternative is to just die, so the walking idea is the only option.

I was thinking that as well.
