Those who disliked the film, should watch the series.

I, like many of you was somewhat dissapointed with the film. I felt that it was just a sappy melodrama with an intresting historical setting. But as it turns out the film was basically just a taster. Right now the 1 russian channel is showing the whole film as it was ment to be shown, a series close to 10 hours long. Every charachter is much better developed and a lot more are introduced. There is a lot of historical and personal information. The series gives a thorough and rather impartial view on the civil war, unlike the film which felt rushed and extremely "pro-white".
It's understandable why they released the film first. They clearly needed to recoup the cost of production, as this film/series was the most expensive in the post-Soviet russian history. But it's clearly visible that the money was really well spent, and i hope that this trend of making high quality big budget series continues.

Wow, a 10 hour miniseries reduced to a 2 hour movie, can it be any good?

Yes, I just saw the COMPLETE TV series (In Russian) it is spectacular, though not historically accurate it is so good it deserves to be released in it's entirety in English or at leas subtitled. The movie is a poor version of a great series.

I want to see the series, dammnit! There's no way I'm missing such a lavish production. I hope they release this on blu-ray soon, it's been a couple of years already.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy, let me know!

Still waiting on an english release of the series. Probably never happen, but someone could do a translation and uploads the subs. There are Russian dvds of the series available on eBay.

I saw the film quite recently and thought it a decent attempt at a "mini-Zhivago".The UK dvd has been heavily edited into a 2 hour feature but it`s still reasonably coherent. Can`t think of too many films that depict the Russian Navy in a WW1 setting(or WW2 for that matter) and the production clearly had some cash to spend.Interested enough to search out the 10 hour TV version if it exists anywhere?

My thoughts exactly. I don't think there are any modern movies depicting WW1 navy combat (not that I have found). I thought the movie was well made for a Russian film and I've been dying to see the series with subtitles since it came out.

For the love of all that is holy, someone release the series on bluray with English subtitles!
