Jason Isaacs

This seems like it'll be an interesting movie! Jason will play a traitor to the king so I guess that means villain again! (not that I mind one bit)

even though the director does not speak English, I do believe the film
was filmed in English....

It says on Jason's trivia page, that he is fluent in spanish.

I don't know why, lol, but for some reason, that doesn't surprise me.

Anyway, I do hope that if it's filmed in Spanish, that there will be sub-titles, and that it won't be dubbed over if played in American theaters. I do really despise things that are dubbed. Whoever dubbed Like Water For Chocolate should be shot! I saw it in the theaters, and they sub-titled it, and it was the same on cable. Then one day, about twelve years ago now, I woke up and saw it was on (but I had the sound muted). I couldn't understand why there were no sub-titles. I turned the volume up, and nearly got nauseaus when I found it had been dubbed. I haven't been able to watch the movie since.

So I truly hope, as I previously said, that this movie is sub-titled, and not dubbed, if it is in Spanish, and not English.

Anyway, I am intrigued by this movie, and yes, Jason Isaacs makes for a FABULOUS villain! Though I wouldn't necessarily call him a villain in Brotherhood, that is an excellent show, and I highly recommend it.

I just saw it in Spain, it's been dubbed into English and it is awful!

reply

What´s awful, the dubbing or the movie itself?

reply

Both. It has to be seen to be believed how bad it is. The acting, the script, the directing. Costumes and settings are impressive though.

It's not that bad, its quite watchable. The plot is not that suspenseful as it might suggest, some of the dialogue is corny, but this film reminds me of the swashbucler films of the 1940s with Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power. I was expecting more swordfights, or at least better ones, and more intrigue, but still it's not a bad movie. Julia Ormond looks ravishing on it, but I was expecting more of her character. The costumes are beautiful and it was filmed in the El Escorial monastery, which is quite impressive. This film needed more budget, and a better script, but it's not as bad as garry orreily suggests. If you like historical films I'd give it a go.
