Wait, what?

Where did this come from? It had better be a good film, because the wait for Sin City 2 is killing me.

It's a kids movie. All of Rodriguez's kids film = teh suck.

You have no idea what war is like. - Tetsuya aka Casshern.

I dont know what you're talking about. I thought the sequels were crap, as was shark boy and lava girl (no effort whatsoever, he farted it out on the side of sin city as indulgence to his son Racer or Rebel or whatever) but i thought Spy Kids 1 was nothing short of fantastic. It feels like a movie that a really cool kid made, and i cant think of a kid that it wont click with.

I thought the first two Spy Kids movies were pretty damn good, as far as kids movies go. The third one was an abortion of a trainwreck of a disaster of a movie. Shark Boy and Lava Girl was somewhere in between the two - I never need to see a red/blue 3D movie again - ever.

i was thinking the same thing. i've checked his imdb page frequently hoping something would happen with the Sin City movies or Machete, but they've just stayed in these limbo stages of production. and now i look at it and heres this movie in post already! but then again it is one of his kids movies, which he can pull off in less than a month.

but still, he needs to get on with those Sin City movies. the wait is killin me too.

Doesnt he do these kid movies to fund his bigger projects ala Sin City movies

reply

Well Spy Kids is really his only kids movie, the others were all experiments.

Sometimes directors have to put off projects until their actor's schedules allow them to work together. since the Sin City films have a large all star cast this may just be a side project while he's waiting to film.

Although many of the posters on IMDB are childish, are any of the people who keep trash-talking RR's kid movies, actually kids? Do you have kids? My six-year-old's absolute favorite movie is Spy Kids. She also loves Spy Kids 2 and Shark Boy and Lava Girl more than anything Disney has put out to date.

There is a simple reason you don't like these movies. Ironically, it's the same reason you like his other stuff.

Try looking at it through the eyes of a child.

I think the speed that me made SHARK BOY and SPY KIDS 3 really worked against him, they were poorly written with no story whatsoever and the 3-D was terrible, I've seen my share of 3-D and I don't think he should go down that road again, Coraline became a new benchmark for how it should be done, he should take notice

reply

Spy Kids 3 came substantially earlier than Coraline as far as the still-early 3D market is concerned.

Personally I thought Spy Kids was a return to form after the disappointingly bland Faculty. It had Rodriguez's style stamped all over it, and was definitely worth a look for his grown up fans. The sequels, and Sharkboy definitely seem to have been a bit rushed and insubstantial though. Although there's still a few moments in the SK sequels that amused me a bit. Sly in SK3 for example.

As long as Rodriguez makes it, I will watch it. I watch his movies for his style mostly and he is one of a kind. He is far better than his best friend and overrated director Tarantino.
