Using 'Shorts' to tell the story

Does anyone think that the disjointed way the story was told, jumping around from perspective to perspective, actually improved this tale?
I liked the movie but found this aspect distracting.

"They who... give up... liberty to obtain... safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I thought it was pretty tedious and unnecessary. Kid movies like this shouldn't be that complicated if there's no real point.
