Robert tries too hard on his family films.

Don't you agree? He kind of tries too hard on his family films.

reply

You know, without that extra 'o' in 'too', that sentence looks pretty damn dirty.

"Then where does the power come from, to see the race to its end? From within."

reply

Yes, Chisco! Rodriguez goes FAR over the top in his family film... Well, really, he does that with any film he touches.

But, Spy Kids is the perfect example. All three of those movies were WAY over the top and overdone.

reply

Being over the top is what makes them good. I loved Spy Kids movies when I was little

reply

Yeah. for some reason he thinks he can make more sucessful kids films AFTER spy kids.

reply

Robert Rodriguez is not trying too hard, he is picking up the slack that much of Hollywood has dropped on fun family entertainment(Pixar can't do it all on their own). And that over the top humor is just what kids need these days. How many kids watch the old Bugs Bunny and Road Runner cartoons that my generation grew up watching? We knew it was not real, and it was fun!! The Trailer looks great and I can not wait for this big kid to take the little kids to see it.

reply

Family films, and animation are money machines, thats why he's making these films, thats the only reason.

^^^ This! As of the recent decade, the family unit is shot to hell. technology is distancing kids from their parents and vice versa, parents are working far more to support their family(and their gadgets)while quality time is almost non-existant. Children are being robbed of their childhood. Seriously, I'd hate to be a child now. As it is, Saturday mornings aren't what they used to be, and they cut any children programming short to show sports shows(for adults). Family sitcoms are a dying breed. If there's any time that needs this type of film, it's NOW! Hell, bring on more! We need it!

reply

When it comes to Saturday mornings kids are getting better then previous generations, they get 24/7 kids channels.

When I became a man I put away childish things-fear of childishness & desire to be very grown up

reply

Channels full of audience-diminishing crap.
At least the kids shows from a decade or so ago (most of them) didn't treat their audiences like idiots.
Humanity seems to be getting dumber with every passing generation, and where's intelligent entertainment gone to? Instead of Invader Zim and Batman: The Animated Series, we have CGI Ninja Turtles and Spongebob.
Even the cartoons are total CGI now. They're not even trying anymore.

Wow, you replied to a 5-year-old post. That's a necropost if I've ever seen one.

Your point?

Five years. FIVE YEARS. You replied to a post that's half a decade old.

reply

I didn't reply to your post, and I wasn't rude to anyone in particular, so again...

Your point?

I just think he thinks he's better than he is. Some of his films have been truly awful. "Spy Kids" wasn't too bad but they seem to be getting worse, the trailer for "Shorts" looked ok though.

reply

That might be the case, but I think its a spin on what film companies don't usually do, so I'm glad someone's doing it differently. Keep going, Robert. He's got his own goals and ways about getting 'em done, so I applaud his route.

reply

Well I gotta admit. When I went to see UP, out of all the trailers shown, I felt this one was the funniest and looked the most interesting.

reply

what person at what point in their life hasn't wondered what it would be like to have a stone that grants wishes?

As much as I love Bridge to Terabithia im glad a director like RR is doing this and able to put the crazy imagination we all had as kids into the film rather than something serious.

reply

Saw the trailer online and really enjoyed it. Knowin all of RR's family films and the others as well, this should have just the right over-the-top sensibilities to work.

reply

How can you not like RR's creative ideas? Like someone posted already animations and kid flicks are moneymakers nowadays. Spykids was good why would you doubt him on this one without even watching it..over the top is what Hollywood's all about anyhow. I'm sure even though i'm not a big fan of kid movies this one will be more entertaining and will make more sense than Tranformers2.

reply

He does it for his kids it's his childrens idea's that he makes into a movie for them in my opinion that makes him a pretty cool guy. If i were a director with 6 kids like he is i'd do the same thing. It's a kids movie it's not marketed towards adults so all the adults who feel compelled to come here and bitch about how stupid the movie is is wasting their breath.

reply

Some people have good points one here, but subtleness also goes a long way. For example, The Incredibles was over the top at times, but was subtle. It lets you breathe from scene to scene. Shorts looks like one enourmous headache.
