Did anyone else just absolutely hate this movie?

Because I did. I wanted to walk out of the theater, but I couldn't because I was with my summer camp. We wre not willing to see this! It was our only choice! And everybody in the camp HATED this movie XP

I thought it was very fun. Took a bit getting use to the fantasy elements in a more realistic environment(unlike Spy Kids or Sharkboy which were total fantasy).

reply

did you create an account at IMDB just so you could talk about how much you hated this one film?

reply

no. Yes, I hated this film, I wanted to post why I hated it, but that doesn't mean the sole purpose of my account was to continually bag this film.

Hate is such an ugly word. How about inappropriate:

These movies are for little kids. Yeah, I didn't like it but I am not 8 years-old.
You should ask some kiddies what does they think about this movie because it was targeted at them.
My kids enjoyed it. I didn't. My wife loves chick-flicks and rom-coms I usually hate them. She hates Sci-fi and horror flicks and gets bored to death by art-house films, precisely my fav genres.
In short: There's a movie for every age, sex, and taste.

Yes

Your favorite movie sucks.

I agree. Not hate but I was embarrased for it. Rodrieguez is one of my alltime fav directors but man this was *beep* It felt like he was fulfilling some kind of assignment by making it. It didn't even really feel like a real 'movie,' like it was improvised with the intent to be quickly forgotten. I really dug the first two Spy Kids and I know how capable Rodrieguez is, especially when comparing this to his segment in 'Four Rooms' which was such a good example of fun and creative comedy.

I love almost all of Rodriguez's films, he's one of my favorites as well. I just find his kids movies entertaining too!

My nephew and I really really disliked this film ... couldn't sit through it unfortunately. Particularly disappointing because Sam wanted to hire Planet 51 but I said "no, this will be good ... it's by the guy who made spy kids and lets have a break from the animate films." What a bad call ... raced back to the dvd store and got Planet 51 just in the nick of time before they closed!

This was no more bad than the third Spy Kids film, which felt really phoned in for just about everything.

Feeling embarrassed for Rodriguez because of this (or any films he'll make similar to it) is pointless though. It's clear that he's making the films he wants to make, not because he's contractually obligated to do so. He's the kind of director/writer/etc. that can put out a film with a serious tone and then years later put out one that's the complete opposite without batting an eyelash in terms of "Well, the people who liked El Mariachi/etc. are going to absolutely loathe this".

Meh.. Spy Kids 3 was hell of a lot better than this booger trash, not much better though.

Which was it, a hell of a lot better or not much better?

reply

I loved it. I'm not a kid. I also do not have any kids. But I do not care about realism in films.
