Continuity issues

Considering this film was done as a prequel to Malevolence and by the same director, why would he have made such a glaring error by showing the bad guy cut the boys face AFTER he took him out of the bag in the basement while in Malevolence they had shown him pop out of the bag with the cut already on his face? It just makes no sense when he went to such efforts to tie them together. The feel of the two films is completely different as well. Malevolence is a straight up "Halloween" rip-off(down to the music) horror film. Bereavement is much more of a psychological thriller.

I think the scene @ the beginning of Malevolence where Graham pulls Martin out of the sack with his face cut and mouth taped probably happened after the similar scene shown in Bereavement where he actually cuts his face.
