First impressions (Spoilers)

I'd heard of Malevolence but hadn't seen it. Liked the trailer for Bereavement so got both films this weekend and sat down and watched them together. I loved them! I don't really understand the people who yell 'ripoff' sure the bank robber and later martin wore a pillow case like Jason and yeah the blank eyed martin does put you in mind of Michael but those aren't main plots of the film. I mean are we going to call anything a ripoff because they use the same prop or small idea of another movie? In that case Jason and Michael are ripoffs of Norman Bates, they used knives to kill just like Norman. And everytime someone in a horror flick gets killed in a shower we don't yell ripoff of Psycho. These things are just staples of horror films.

That said I actually feel Martin was creepier then Michael. I think because we see his loss of innocence and we see him fight himself on whats good and whats evil, we see his sense of reality become warped. Old man Sutter didn't really get to me, didn't think he was a great killer but Martin, yeah he gave me the creeps.

You know I think when a film has such extreme reviews from fans, love it or hate, it that means it was at least a well done movie. It's just we all have different taste in what we love or hate so the same things that make one horror fan fall in love with a movie are the same things that make another horror fan want to destroy the film with vengeance. To me that says whatever that thing was, it was done right. The horror movies that make everyone say 'eh, it was ok' those are the ones that didn't achieve what they set out to do.

In Malevolence the mom and girl escape in the end so it threw me for a loop when everyone dies in Bereavement. I wasn't expecting that at all! Kinda pissed at them for doing that but I guess that means he achieved what he meant to do.

So yeah put me in with those who loved it, just my opinion, you don't have to bash me for it.

Was a very well craft and especially well shot film, my only criticism was the the constants screaming and whimpering of the victims I know its realistic I guess but when your running away from a homicidal maniac stop crying It kinda gives you away. 6.5/10

"Its just a ride"
