I didn't really like it

Granted i've only seen tonight's episode, but from a big big fan of Shaun's work, i found this very disappointing. There were a few things that were rather funny, but mostly i was sadly disappointed. I think it should be less topical humour and spend more time writing fictional, satirical events. They look like they're trying to imitate Chris Morris' fantastic Day Today and On The Hour, but not very well at all. Failing that, he should return to form and do a sketch show like the Micallef P(r)ogram.

Yep, as much as I hate to say it I kind of agree. The show seems to go downhill every week. Political humour just isn't the best fit obviously, but I'm still holding out hope that it will turn around soon.

And what will it be like when there's no Federal Election providing plenty of fodder?

I love Micallef but it feels like treaded territory. The Chaser have already lampooned most of this stuff in the 'War on Everything' and the format itself is well treaded from 'CNNNN' which the Chaser also did years ago.

The highlight of Newstopia is, of course, Micallef himself, and his deadpan delivery and facial expressions. Comedy is damn hard though, so I still commend him for getting a few laughs out of me; just think politics isn't quite his forte.

I thought its consistently been very entertaining, with touches of Micallef's trademark humour throughout (eg comparing the election with Rocky IV or Thunderdome), it really seems like his old shows with the interviews though, which is probably my favourite part of the show
