Films like this

I really enjoyed this film; the off beat humour, the idea of an unknown journey, the lighthearted relationships between characters, and the overall leisurely direction of the film - it was really fun to watch, but also offered a much deeper meaning. Can anyone recommend other films that explore human emotions and relationships through a very natural pace and style similar to this?

I agree.

Yu Tu Mama Tambien is a similar type of movie in many ways, but also a movie called "Lucia Lucia" from Mexico has a bit more plot but has this quality as well. Sideways captures a bit of the relationship aspect of this film.

The recent Oscar winning Short Film "Curfew" which is going to be made into a Feature has a bit of this feel.

But as far as a film just like this, where there is a subtle understated beauty and simpleness between two characters that is allowed to flourish, I'm not sure. Still Walking is another Japanese film where is more around family but has similar type pacing.

This type of movie is rare, in that most of these types of movies are romance movies like the Before Sunset, After Sunrise movies.

I came to this post looking for suggestions of similar movies myself.

Maybe try more by the director Satoshi Miki; like Instant Numa (2009) or It's Me, It's Me (2013).

If you don't mind that it's an animated movie, "A Garden of Words" is very recent and very relevant to what you're looking for. At the high level, the story is just about a boy who skips school on rainy days and goes to the local park to sit alone and draw, while it seems a woman (much older than he) does the same. So they learn more about each other through that process.
