Why is dog the only one who doesn't talk?

I like the show (mainly because my kids love it) but I cannot figure out why Dog is the only one who doesn't speak.

I have wondered the same thing. And Dog looks like he has a load to say!

reply

Dog can speak volumes without uttering a word. It is his way.

I have been watching way too much of this show......

Anyway, I got the idea once, after watching the opening shot of the show, that dog created all of these friends. Dog is the first one to appear in the opening. Maybe that is why he doesn't talk? (The cows don't talk either, they just moooo.)

I wrote to the show to ask, and this is what I received back:

"The characters in WordWorld were modeled after real children. Just as children come in shapes, ages and sizes, so do our WordFriends. Each WordFriend represents a different developmental state. FROG and ELEPHANT are our oldest WordFriends. They can spell long words and are pretty independent. DUCK and DOG are our youngest WordFriends. DUCK is still learning his letters and DOG is preverbal, meaning he cannot talk yet; however he learns very quickly."

Actually, Cow doesn't talk either. She just moos. I couldn't figure this out either - why some can talk and some can't!

LOL

Yes, I immediately identified with those "differences".

Notice, also, that Duck has a bad lisp - surprised they didn't mention that, being so self-consciously anxious to "represent all".

Why doesn't Pluto ever talk? :) LOL. Same thing I guess.
