Echoes of the Red Guard and the Cultural Revolution

Reciting the faults of one's opponent in front of the class. This is not done in other Confucian societies.

Luo Lei's exaggerated arm thrusts and finger pointing at Cheng Cheng at the very end. Classic Red Guard body language and demeanor.

Mob, er, classroom calls to "dedao" Cheng Cheng, Luo Lei, etc, which is Mandarin for "overthrow."

"Zili piping" self-criticism sessions, in which the aspiring leader takes him- or herself down a notch.

A teacher giving on-the-spot guidance but not encouraging feedback.

Synchronized reading aloud from an approved text.
