Literary Reference

I went to see the screening of this film in NYC last night and truly enjoyed it. However, I can't seem to bring back that first literary reference mentioned at the start of the film. It was an essay and had "melting" in the title... author's last name starting with an M... thanks in advance.

That was from "All That Is Solid Melts Into Air" by Marshall Berman.

The quote is: "To be modern is to find ourselves in an environment that promises us adventure, power, joy, growth, transformation of ourselves and the world - and at the same time threatens to destroy everything we have, everything we know, everything we are."

Do you think it was chosen because it was relevant, or is their an element of pretentiousness at play?

My body makes no moan
