One of the things I find really sad...

Is the fact that during the recording of Closer, the band just thought Ian was referring to the novels and things that inspired him so didn't take much notice of his lyrics as they were working so hard on the album, and it was only when Deborah published the lyrics they read that he was actually singing from his heart and how he no longer wished to live. One of the guys (not sure who he was) even started crying when he had the sudden realisation that Ian was in a very dark, lonely place. They never realised just how bleak and sad his lyrics really were.
