Questions... (spoilers)

"In the beginning, was that a real fingers in the plastic bag? The characters mention something about Gavin and how he's probably in on it, but Jenny said he wouldn't cut off his own finger. At the end of the movie, when Gavin shows himself, he had a bandage around his hand with what looked like a missing finger. All the scenes after show Gavin with 5 fingers (1 thumb, 4 fingers....whatever you wanna call them)."

--The movie never actually explained where this finger came from. If you notice in the scene where they discovered Gavin, he was unwrapping his hand bandage to show the others that he did have all of his fingers. The first victim was killed before the discovery of the bag but the camera never panned so the audience could confirm whether she too had all of her fingers.

"I also don't get how, if Tim was supposed to be heading the scavenger hunt, how Gavin took control of it. And how he knew the lesbian would start."

--In the scene where Jenny went back to her dorm because she couldn't find Gavin and didn't want to start without him, Tim shows up and she questions him about the text messages. He then explains to her that he has all the clues already made up and in his phone ready to be sent since they were specifically designed for each person. Gavin took control simply by killing Tim and taking his phone. As far as Deena joining the game. She liked Jenny, he could have assumed that her being in the game would make Deena want to join as well since she no longer had a partner. Either way, I think he would have killed her.

"Also, at one of the locations, the library, the girl behind the desk says, "yea, the fat guy was just here." Gavin wasn't fat"

-- This happened at the video store where they were inquiring about the drop box. What the clerk actually said was "Yep, THAT guy was just here".
