Why the happy ending?

Spoilers

The comic ends with everyone dead and nothing explained. The movie ends with the beach's properties remaining unexplained but the resort using it for field testing medicine results. Also, there's an underwater escape route now. The teenagers escape and notify the police when the resort brings new guests to the beach.
The reason is of course that the US audience wants a somewhat happy ending. In Europe, the original ending would have sufficed, as the story's message is, of course, CARPE DIEM!

"The comic ends with everyone dead and nothing explained. The movie ends with the beach's properties remaining unexplained"

First of all, most movie-goers don't want to sit through an entire movie of crazy stuff happening, and then go home with no explanation of why it occurred. And since most movie makers want to turn a profit, they try to make movies that people will enjoy.

Secondly, the movie does explain the beach's properties. The explanation is a bit weird, but they do explain why things are happening .

So my "guess the twist" answer from another thread was correct?

I hypothesized that the Island they were on was conducting aging experiments and the protagonist (a younger character) would discover this atrocity of using human guinea pigs and saves the day.

Whatever you want to tell yourself. The plot has been on the internet for some time now, so there's no cookies for overachievers.

reply

I never asked for a cookie and I never heard of the this story before it was promoted as an MNS "movie", therefore I still lay claim to my guess.

reply

Anyone's guess, really..
