From Profit to Prophet?

Why the name change? Just wondering.....

reply

most likely because cults pull in a lot of money, in the name of giving to god people 'actually' give money to men (or prophets).

for example:

the mormon church collects 10% of everything mormons earn (income, money from parents, and other crazy varying moneys according to devoutness of mormon). they tell the mormons that they will not be burned when jesus comes to kill us all, then save us. then they don't pay any of the lower clergy, so these 'billions upon billions' of dollars that the mormon church has been collecting is in the hands of a few men. a few men smart enough to call themselves prophets, so they have earned a large profit. or followed the profit by realizing big money could be made by controlling the thoughts, moneys, and sexualities of otherwise good human beings. it's a double win.

so, follow the prophet, profit, it's pretty much the same thing, but 'prophet' is less obvious and less obvious, they want you to figure this out.

religion is bad. especially mormons lol spot on.

Or...Follow the Prophet is a notable LDS quote and "Follow the Profit" is a painfully bad pun.

Thanks Z, I get that part, but I was asking, and I am asking the production staff, is that when we were filming, it was Profit...now it's Prophet...Just wondering why they changed the name.

you are horribly misinformed about mormons. they never once say you will be saved if you pay your 10% of your earnings witch is called tithing by the way and many major religions have tithing. anyways, the tithing money does not go to any of the "clergy" as you put it. it goes to building churches, temples, schools around the world, third world countries and helps other people in need. i am a mormon and am in no way having my thoughts controled by the prophet.

the "clergy" as you put it, doesnt need to be paid. they are already extremely wealthy from their business endeavours before their present church callings. one of them was a world renowned heart surgeon who actually pioneered open heart surgery. most have similar backrounds in the business world.

with all that said, this movie really should not have anything to do with "mormons". because "mormons" do not practice polygamy. that ended over 100 years ago for our religion. those who still practice it have no affiliation with the LDS church. they have their own temples, their own "prophet" and everything. so before you go posting ridiculous claims about the LDS church, know what your talking about.

wow

youhavemyattention89 is very right. I also know for a fact that the tithing money was spent to help out the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

reply

Ziewolf you know nothing about he the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not to be confused with these fundamentalist polygamist groups. Those people are not connected to the LDS Church in any way.

Sure members of the Church give 10% in tithing, hardly a new or unique concept in all of Christianity. But more importantly NO ONE profits from this money. There is no paid clergy from the top to the bottom. That includes the Prophet. The Prophet of the Church does not receive one dime from tithing for his own use. They live off of their own savings and/or investments from when they had a regular secular job.

This applies to the 12 Apostles and all other leaders of the Church. No Church leader gets paid anything from tithing or any other investments the Church has made over the years.

So what is done with this money? Much of it goes to maintenance and construction of new buildings. A lot goes into the Church's welfare program to help the needy. A lot goes to victims of natural disaster. We have been doing that for decades and we distributed food and supplies to Katrina victims, we were in Haiti and Columbia after those huge earthquakes. We have sent care packages like this to victims of every disaster stricken area in the world. This aid goes to members and nonmembers alike.

We also build schools in some of the most poverty stricken parts of the world to help educate children to lift them out of poverty.

And Jesus is not going to kill all non-Mormons when he returns. I don't know where that ridiculous piece of nonsense came from. The Bible says that the wicked will perish but that includes some Mormons and excludes many non Mormons.

reply

Really. I happen to know everything you're saying here is bull crap. Those "billions and billions" of dollars we supposedly have go to no one person. They don't go to a select few. We are one of the only churches that do not pay our clergy We pay it willingly. Because we want to. That money goes to the construction of church buildings, temples, food supplies for storehouses, and emergency response supplies to react to natural disasters. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was one of the most active groups in responding to the natural catastrophes all over the world, including Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti and the fires in CA that I personally was involved in.

I don't practice polygamy. Our church doesn't practice polygamy.

Use your brain before your mouth.

I think the poster was talking about the mormans that broke off from the Church of LDS. I know that you don't like the polygamists to be called mormans. However, that is how most people think of them. Like extreme mormans! While I realize the church of LDS doesn't do the things that were said there are polygamist cults that do.
