They made him too unlikeable

Cage's character was just too unlikeable for my taste and had basically no redeeming qualities.. so I didn't really care about the character or the movie. A lot of over-the-top scenes, like when he had sex with girl in the parking lot, that was just *beep* up and completely unnecessary... A dissapointing film from Herzog.

I liked him a lot. Very male. Human, too.

you've got some weird taste

Nonconformist by nature. Didn't even have to work for it.

I suggest you rent Good Lieutenant. Much more likable main character.

maybe I'll check it out.. hope you're not being sarcastic:)

LOL!!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

You should see Harvey Keitel in the 1992 movie. Much, much worse. Both great movies, though. The Expendables- http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808411960/video/18909047

There's a new Jennifer Anniston / Tom Hanks rom com coming out - maybe you'd prefer that?

reply

Well, I saw it and I still think Cage's character was worse and less likeable.. Keitel at least seemed to be in conflict with the things he was doing.. Cage was just an over-the-top psycho and a charicature.. less believable

reply

I don't understand how he was a psycho?
He looked out for himself and did whatever it took to achieve his goals. I honestly found very little unlikeable about him.

reply

I don't think you should expect 'likeable' characters from Herzog.

Rescue Dawn ?

I think it's funny that main characters in movies have to be likable to any degree. Herzog breaks molds for a living. If you're looking for a movie made like every other, don't see his movies.

I thought he was too likeable. Harvey Keitel was disgusting.

In the earlier film Keitels character who is truly a Bad Lt. has at least a spark of something we can consider good or at least remorseful; we see examples a few times culminating in him giving the boys a second chance.

Terence in this film is always a dick unless we are suppose to think the spoon scene makes him a little more human and not just a lot more retarded. Deciding not to bet on and watch a caged man drown is the soundest thing he does in the film.

It's not the fact that he is a bad guy so much as its a bad film. Funny bad but bad all the same.
