Saw the film, good story. The writer is my neighbor. Told him I wasn't sure why Jay seemed to be the only promenant non-white actor, and why he seemed to be the comic relief for the film. Eben let me know that the real Jay is white, but Michael (the actor) was the best profoundly deaf actor who matched up with the real Jay's personality. Makes sense.

Yeah Jay was cool... and yeah he was white, you can see pictures of him in the credits. He's even dressed up as Mr.Clean in one of the pics .
They both had the bald coolness that the character needed so colors didn't matter.
