I couldnt get to any of the screenings....

So I bought the DVD instead.
when I first heard this band I didnt get it.
It seemed a little too close to prog rock for my taste: made up languages, long instrumentals, strange instruments etc. Then one day I just got it, they're not being odd for the sake of it, they really believe in the sounds they're producing.
It was Olsen Olsen that really got me, there is no better experience than walking home on a cold night listening to that song on headphones.
The movie just adds to the whole experience, seeing where they're from, their influences, their friends really completes the set.
just a word of warning if you dont like the band you wont get it, this isnt like "the last waltz" where the music is a part of the documentary, the music IS the documentary and the images and breaks are designed to fit around it
It really is a beautiful thing

Glad you like the music now but one point you made really annoys me (and a lot of people make this mistake). A majority of Sigur Ros' music is in ICELANDIC. That's a real language. All of Von and Agaetis Byrjun, much of Takk and numerous EPs are in Icelandic while some songs on Takk and () in addition to some other EPs are in Volenska, or Hopelandic. That's made up but most of their lyrics are not. Please get it right because it's an irritating (and frankly insulting) generalization to think all their lyrics are gibberish.

I "got" the music instantly the very first time I heard it at a friend's home.

Months later I bought by chance the Maxi+DVD with their 3 clips on it and the first time I saw Glosoli................................................
that was too much for my not prepared soul. I NEVER expected such a trip-like experience (I do not take drugs, don't even drink a lot and don't smoke - so, don't get me wrong :-) ). It was phantastic, I never saw or heard anything like that. The music video for Glosoli is just the best clip I've ever seen. It's indescribably beautiful. I was complete stunned and drugged by it, it's purest audiovisual euphoria.
That's how it started... Sigur Rós so got instantly to be my favorite band.
Takk is the best album that exists and I own and know a couple of hundred CDs, there is nothing comparable. I also couldn't believe it.
