Gosh...

I got tempted to watch this film after getting through some old episodes of Jericho. The idea of seeing Skeet Ulrich on screen seemed like fun.

I don't know, I always thought that it is actually a good thing, when after seeing the big "the end" sign you go thinking about the ending - you think about the sense, the outcome of the film. You judge the characters and their motives. But this time, after the ending, I tried to look for the actual sense, find any meaning that might be included.
I've seen this movie twice. After the first time watching it, I've asked myself "...that's it?...". After the second time I went "Seriously? THAT'S IT?!". It got hectic (and not in a good way) pretty fast but I've thought that all the loose ends sooner or later will be tied together. But it's just not there.
And I guess that Skeet happened to play in 4 scenes (of which 3 lasted like 5 seconds, and he was barely visible during the longer one, that's why he looked like Constantino from Jericho). At least Mr. Kristofferson got a bit more significant role.
I've wasted over 3 hours (watched 2 time) just to compromise the great huge freaking script shadowy-ghostly conspiracy, which turns out to be based on nothing, cause it actually wasn't there. So where's the story in it? That's really distasteful for the scriptwriter, director, the whole company to play like that with the audience.

Spoiler:
There's too many unknowns or unexplained things. For example: what's the thing with the MC and his wife's dad, what's the grudge about? What's the thing with Gene's girlfriend's son: he got lost or maybe he never existed, and what's the point in this sudden change?
At the end I actually thought that the MC really went schizophrenic. THIS would give the movie some sense and tie all the loose ends into one huge knot. This is the only explanation for everything unexplained in the script - if he's a psycho, what do you care, right? He's insane, get it? Cool, right? Hah... Wow-wee. And I think that it's really the case. At the very beginning you see a conversation, when MC's wife tell dad about the pregnancy:
- Dad: We both know that he is... (my explanation: insane)
- Wife: Don't, dad. Will has been through a lot and he's fine. (My explanation: nope! he's not!)
Afterwards, before and during Will is getting the award, he seems absent. And this is when I get confused... He stands before the crowd. And then, in my opinion, a huge astral projection begins, and everything that happens after that is only in his head. This would make some sense, only it wouldn't be schizophrenia but more like catatonia. But, after all, when he's laying on the bed at the end, we can see the doctor, and Junior (Skeet Ulrich), we hear the news-guy telling about solving the mystery of lost colony and then we see Gene. And then again, the sense is lost again. It's like a cliff-hanger never to be explained.
