She didn't give up. When she saw the father, she either recognized him or she was curious about the man her brother claimed to be their father. If it's the former, she sort of panicked because she didn't know how to react. If it's the latter, then she wanted to see what he'd do. And when bought flowers for her mother, she knew it was him. Because of this, she forgot about the interview and lost track of time.
