Part 2?

Why does it say "Part 2" in the beginning? But in the end it says "Part 1 of The Darjeeling Limited".

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe part 2 of the story with the two of them. I have no idea.

were did it say part 2? it doenst say the title till after it. and did this play in the theaters.

reply

It says Part 2 at the very beginning.. At least in the version I saw (Hotel.Chevalier.READ.NFO.DVDRip.XviD-SAPHiRE).

does it also say "Part 2" in the Dvd-version? or in the version that was downloadable from US-iTunes??

I was under the impression that everything that happened in Hotel Chevalier between Jack and his girlfriend occurred immediately before the events in Darjeeling Limited. There was the scene in D. L. when Jack finds the perfume that she left in his suitcase, and he says, "Look, she left it in my suitcase" and they smell the perfume. I've seen on other threads that some people think that the events in Hotel Chevalier happened AFTER Darjeeling Limited, and I don't think this was the case.

That is all.

Yaeh, I knwo that it takes place BEFORE 'Darjeeling Limited'. But at the beginning of 'Chevalier' it says "PART 2" and at the ending it says "PART 1 of Darjeeling Limited". (I've got a downloaded copy of chevalier)

Now my questions are:

1. Does it say PART 2 also on the dvd-version?
2. To people who downloaded it from US-iTunes: does it say also on that version "Part 2"?
3. To people who saw "Chevalier" in theatres just before "Darjeeling": was there also a "PART 2"??
4. Why?

thnx in advance, much appreciated

«Near the end of the Darjeeling Limited, when Jack reads the end of his new story to his brothers, Francis says, "it's hard for me to understand the ending without knowing the rest of it." Perhaps this is why Hotel Chevalier is designated "part 2" - the audience doesn't know exactly what lead up to Jack's streak of independence.»

Yes, the part of the short story that Jack reads in that Darjeeling Limited scene is a direct reference to the short: "Whatever happens in the end, she said, I don't want to lose you as my friend - He looked into her eyes: I promise I will never be your friend, no matter what, ever" (and it goes on).

So it's Part 2 of Jack's short story, and Part 1 one of the movie.

I know these posts were written before the DVD came out, but I just watched both parts yesterday on DVD and Hotel Chevalier is "Part 1" and The Darjeeling Limited is "Part 2" on the disc.

I recently saw the movie and loved it .. Quite a true portrayal of India as well . Nothing too flashy or out of the way, the regular rural life .

reply

yeah, the regular life of wealthy people perhaps...

I saw it in the theater and Hotel Chevalier was shown BEFORE Darjeeling Limited.

Go to an art gallery and walk around the contemporary art section and you are certain to find at least one art work incongruously numbered. 'Recollections of a Fish #7'. That sort of thing. It was an affectation much beloved by people who thought of themselves as 'Avant-garde'. Calling it 'Part Two' when it was intended either as a stand alone work or as an opener to 'The Darjeeling Ltd' confirms that Wes Anderson enjoys irony.
