Was that a dog???

What was that animal that they were skinning alive?? My God, I could not get that out of my mind after I saw it! That was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen in a documentary. And when that man put his foot on that dog and its tongue was sticking out...these people are such savages to do something like that. I think it was Gandhi who said, "You can judge the moral stature of a nation by the way it treats it's animals". Truer words were never spoken.

reply

In that case, the USA's moral stature must be pretty high relative to the rest of the world, the US has a higher than average system to defend animal rights. Humane societies, not for profit organizations and things like the ASPCA, shelters, we have lead the world in the protection for animals. Sure there are still some seriously disturbed people who do wrenched things to living beings, but that happens everywhere. Few countries would imprison you for such acts, we will. China runs slaughter houses where animals are killed alive, Europe has a long history of animal rights abuses look at Spain and their running of the bulls the moral stature of our nation is pretty good considering.

I thought it was a wolf? I know what you mean, Ive seen this documentary about a week ago, and i that imagine of them skinning him alive i feel will never lave my mind. It was just the most cruel evil disgusting sick horrriciff disturbing thing I think i will EVER see! Humans are cruel and terrible beings, the poor animals as Ingrid say the human "In slaveing them" Oh gosh i cant even express into words what im feeling. after seeing that i don't think I'll EVER be the same..

reply

I rewound that part like fifty times just because I was in complete horror. I think I've been emotionally scarred for life after seeing that. I cried really bad for that poor animal. No animal deserves to go through that. It should be stopped.

I agree. A truly horrific image. Publicizing such a sickening reality and bringing it to people's attention is an unfortunate necessity. Having it on HBO is a good start but every TV news outlet should air that as well. Only when people are faced with the undeniable cruelty we inflict on these poor innocent beings will they be outraged enough to demand of our politicians that this be ended.

By the way, thousands of baby seals in Canada and, I believe, Norway, meet the same fate every year.

If it's from the same investigation I'm thinking of then those were raccoon dogs being skinned alive in China. The first time I saw that video (which wasn't in this documentary actually) I bawled my eyes out. Those people have no hearts.

This is why people need to stop wearing fur. Even if you think your fur is coming from a nice little farm in the US or something, it is more likely actually coming from a place like that.

reply

I watched the documentary yesterday and can't stop crying out on the inside. I went to work today and could not get the images out of my mind.
With you, fellow posters, I have deepest respect for coming to this site and speaking out about this inhuman/e torture. You must not all agree 100% about certain actions PETA does. I am a PETA member here in Europe and I am quite tolerant and diplomatic with other people but I will speak out and educate about this documentary, animal's sufferings and about fur.
What angers me most is not the ignorant idiots who disregard animals' suffering and killling but those fundamentalists who are outraged that thoughts are wasted on animals because animals are "lesser" than oh so holy humans. I have heard that so often from die-hard evangelicals and it makes me sick to my stomach. It makes me want to get rid of my Christianity. Why can't these people understand that a true human being has a heart generous enough for empathy and respect for animals AND humans?

That is very well said melbalt22.

When i saw that on HBO, my face went white as a ghost. I felt really cold. I hate the bastards that do crap like that. I have four dogs that are like part of the family. That was THE WORST thing i have ever seen. And i did cry like a baby. After they ripped the skin off it they just tossed it into a thing full of other dogs still twitching. NIGHTMARE.

That's exactly right. All the footage can be seen on youtube entitled (IIRC) dogs and cats being skinned alive in China.

Americans are not aware that 99% of the fur imported to America comes from China and the majority of the fur comes from cats and dogs. Please think about this next time you buy a fur-trimmed parka from Walmart.

OHG I felt the same way. That scene stuck in my head, and I still have to try hard to not think about it. That one part just shook me to the core, I was sickened to think anyone could do something like that. What is wrong with people? How COULD you do that to an animal? My God, shoot it in the head first if you "had" to do it. I am so repulsed by how incredible cruel some people can be. It is beyond words.

How do you kill something alive.

He/she meant skinned alive, I'm sure.

What scene are you all talking about? What did it show?

reply

I'll admit that scene shocked me to my core, partly because my own dog was asleep on my lap at the time. But I was just as horrified at what was done to the turkeys, chickens, cows, pigs, monkeys, etc.. I can't imagine anyone applying for a job like that who didn't WANT to cause the most pain and suffering they possible could, or at least think it was ok. I've been desperate for a job before, but no amount of money would ever lead me up to that door.

I have no desire to preach because that doesn't do any good. But do take a few minutes and think about what other animals (besides humans) go through for our food, fashion, convenience, whatever. Sure, there's a lot of bad things happening to humans too, sadly it's all too common. I keep hoping our much-praised but rarely evident capacity for reason and empathy will bring EVERY kind of torture to an end.

No luck so far.

Peace.

The scene was disturbing but it wasn't the chinese, it was a white dude.

Not going to happen as long as the major religions teach intolerance and hatred towards those outside their club...

saw it the other night. i'm usually one who doesn't get emotional over graphic scenes, but that one i will never get out of my mind. just horrific, words cannot express how much pain those animals probably went through. i would love for the people doing that to get skinned alive, see how they like it.

i am not a vegetarian or a peta-ion, just someone who has a heart.
