Books vs. Movie

Did the film makers even bother to read the great book series by Sophie Kinsella? I think not!!! The movie didn't really resemble any of the books.

That said I did enjoy the movie, but I hated what they did with Derek Smeath, the movie seemed to try to make him out to be the devil. In the book he was a very nice, understanding and helpful person not the bastard as he seems to be here.

Final thought: kinda liked the movie, but loved the books.

Yeah, liked the movie but loved the books...

I wish Luke was more like in the books. The "scary" business CEO or whatever.

Bella wouldn't have chosen Edward or Jacob if she met Valek

Agreed. I saw the movie before I read any of the books, so when I was reading the books, I kept thinking when is this gonna happen and why is Derek Smeath so nice, I thought he was mean? After reading the whole series, I can now say that I wish they kept the movie with just the first book and not try to put the first two or three into one movie.

I actually refused to see this at the movies. To begin with, I had major issues with them changing the storyline to take place in New York and to have the girl from New York. Uh, Rebecca is a brit. Case closed!! I rented this the other day and by the end of the movie I just pushed to convince myself that the movie and the book had nothing to do with each other. Love Hugh Dancy. He was the only good thing about the movie!! The only way I can get a minute of enjoyment out of the movie is by pretending it wasn't based on that great and funny book.

I don't suffer from my addictions I enjoy ever second of them!

I was very skeptical about the movie. I was mad that Becky was being made into an American for the film. I didn't see it in the theater, but I just rented it on demand today and...I actually really liked it!!!

As with ANY film adaptation, they are going to change things. Film is a different media, and sometimes a screenplay needs to be reworked to make the most out of it. It really is impossible to include every detail of a books into a movie. That being said, I went in with an open mind.

I thought they were very true to the "spirit" of the books. I thought that it was a really cute and fun movie, the same way that the books are cute & fun. There were enough moments in the movie that I said to myself "that was in the first book!" or "that was in the 2nd book!" About half way through I realized that it was obviously an adaption of the 1st and 2nd books, with it ending with the auction that is at the end of Takes Manhattan.

So they changed a lot of stuff. Big deal. You already read the books and know that story, so why would you want to see the exact same thing on screen? I liked what they did with it and thought it worked very nicely. And how can you not just love Isla Fisher???

Very well said. Couldn't agree with you more.

I loved both the movie and the books. I so agree with you about Isla Fisher. Didn't know her before, but after this movie. I love her and it's funny that I've actually seen her in Wedding Crashers and Definitely, Maybe...but didn't remember her till after I've seen her in this movie, lol. Also, I've mistaken her with Amy Adams, but now...I can actually tell them apart. In this movie though, there were a lot of scenes that Isla looked like Amy Adams. Isla, in my opinion is a lot more prettier (and look much younger....though they're very close in age) than Amy though.

I've even made some screen caps (as well as googled some pics) of them side by side...

It's not her??!! I had a feeling this was a different girl but the resemblance was too much for me and I haven't seen Amy Adams in much. And I'm completely oblivious to who Fisher is.

Thanks for the side by sides.

The book series is one of my favourites so i was very skeptical about the film. I thought it was ok as a stand alone film if you blocked out the book comparisions, but not hilarious- a typical chick-flick. I think it would have been a better film if they'd made it closer to the book.
I really like Isla Fisher and think she was well cast, however Luke was another story. He was way too boyish and didn't seem like he would be the ceo of a major organization.
The location was another problem. The whole feel of the book had british humor running through it and americanizing it took that away from the film.
on a side note- Beckys outfits were hideous, i thought she was meant to be quite stylish...

They left out the part where she goes to work at a clothing store and tries to prevent a customer from trying on a pair of zebra-striped jeans. She wants the zebra-print jeans herself and they're on the clearance rack. She then gets fired before her first day is up.

Makes you wonder if the producers/writers regret it, bc this movie could have been sooo much more. By changing so much, they lost a lot. I'm American, but I found British Becky sooooo easy to relate to. American Becky wasn't that sympathetic to me.

Hardison: You know how I feel about mind games, Nate...NEGATIVELY.
Dexter S4:The ending SUCKED!!

It's a pity that for whatever reason movie scripts always deviate from the books to such an extent that it annoys the fansSource:Confessions of a Shopaholic - Movie Reviewhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2009/09/movie-reviews-for-confessions- of-a-shopaholic

Turns out they did film the zebra-print pants scene, but it was deleted from the film. And yes, it completely altered from the movie.

im used to read books which are almost the films i watch.
yes im one of the people who fisrt watches the film and then reads the book.

i wanted this book so bad because i loved the movie but i was very disappointed by the book when i started to realize the only thing they kept was the names of the characters.

i guess i should try to read this book again having in mind that its not gonna be like all the other cases where the book feels the extended evrsion of the film.

W.H. even the most changed screen version keeps the basic story and just a few details are chnaged but this i didnt know what to think and felt angry.
