Book Luke vs. Movie Luke

I really liked Movie Luke a whole lot better. The one in the book seemed kind of pretentious and I hated how arrogant he was. The movie Luke seemed a lot more kind and generous and it doesn't hurt that he was played by Hugh Dancy. Movie Luke seems to me to be a better fit for Becky, I didn't find the one in the book to be as compatible with her. Anyway, that's just my opinion, but I wanted to see what other people thought. Take in mind that I saw the movie first and then read the book, so maybe I'm just biased.

I'm the opposite. I love Book Luke. I thought he and Becky were perfect together especially as the series expanded.

I'm the complete opposite! I like book Luke so much more. When I first saw the movie, I hated that Luke was her boss.

I think I mostly liked the tension between Bex & Luke while she was outing his company and how the attraction/crush/relationship wasn't instant like in the movie. The more Shopaholic books I read the more I liked him :)

Luke was more interesting in the book.
Movie Luke is nice/cute whereas BL hides his interest and is funny

I'm reading the books at the moment (Shopaholic Ties the Knot) for like the 7th time and I prefer book Luke, he sounds right with Becky in my opinion and I love the chemistry between them both, especially in the first book! I mean yeah Hugh Dancy is very good to but the Luke plot isn't as good. ( I seen the film before I read the books)

Definitely prefer the Book Luke more! Nothing against Hugh Dancy at all, he's a good actor, but I just didn't picture Luke to look like him when I read the book. I imagined someone taller like Richard Armitage, perhaps.

I have to agree with gingerlou452 on this one! I have read (and love) all of the books and I own the DVD. I think Movie Luke is so much more attractive than Book Luke. I mean, yes, Hugh Dancy is handsome, but beyond that, he portrays Luke with a gentle side, and is kind of goofy like Becky. You can see how a girl would fall for him.

I found Book Luke to be extremely annoying. He has very little sense of humor, and it seems like he just 'tolerates' Becky, rather than showing true love or other positive emotions. He's always rather negative, a real downer. In every book it's like 'Luke is a workaholic, Luke hates, yet tries to please, his mother, Luke is a workaholic, etc etc.' This gets old, fast. If they made Hugh Dancy play the part like that, the movie would have had a completely different, and somewhat somber, tone.

In fact, Book Luke bugs me so much, I'm hoping the next book Sophie will release after 'Mini Shopaholic' will be called 'Shopaholic and Divorce!' (My book club agrees!)

(Sorry to upset you Book Luke lovers, but the guy drives me crazy!)

I've heard this comparison before, and yes, I can see the similarities between the two characters. However, I must say this....would you *really* want to be married to such a brooding and intense man? That could get tiresome!

(By the way, for a funny take on this, I recommend reading 'Me and Mr. Darcy' by Alexandra Potter. It's one of those 'be careful what you wish for' stories!)

Cheers! :)

I thought Book Luke was funnier. Movie Luke was nothing like what I'd expected, I thought it might have been played by someone like Michael Vartan. And in the movie they fell in love so quickly without having much chemistry. I liked the buildup of the relationship in the book.
