ever since ze holocaust, a german accent can be nothing but cold and jarring. especially the scene where herzog refers to the inferior specis of seals and how zey must be "VIPED off ZE FACE of ZE EARTH!!!"

I find his german accent very charming. And by the way, it's not a "german" accent, it's a bavarian accent. He speaks german as his native language, but his accent is bavarian.
