So he forgave his mother?

Even though she put her own selfish agenda before her family and chose to escape with her 'love', leaving behind a mountain of responsibilities and it was all forgiven merely through the use of one retarded saying "all is fair in love"? Really? Now that's mind boggling.

Thoughts? Am I the only one who's astonished by this?

I think the film showed both sides of the whole eloping thing beautifully -

..... with Aditya repeating over and over again that running away is a terrible thing to do (both to yourself as well as to your family, something he's experienced first-hand)

..... and with Geet insisting that for her to be herself she has to run away and shape her own life, whether it hurts her or not.

Through helping Geet follow her dreams (and for all his reluctance he DOES help with her running away) he realises that people of certain personalities cannot sit around and wait for the right moment, they create their own momentum. (This is why he himself becomes an extremely proactive person after he goes back to work.) I think this is an another reason why Aditya's mum was shown as a co-founder of their business - in the little that we know of her we are meant to realise that she has a strong, go-getter type personality. Her short hair&business suit look is also another visual cue to show she's not the demure type of woman (that's not me being biased against mothers with short hair: I'm just saying they used certain visual signs to show she was different from usual Hindi film mums.)

Also, if you notice, in Aditya's description of his unhappiness he mentioned that his parents' marraige was broken for many years which shows that his mum tried to make that work for a very long time - making her a more sympathetic character. Then when Aditya tells Geet to accept Anshuman's apology and to be with the one she loves, he realises that he would've given his mother this same advice. Telling Geet to follow her heart is making his heart break and yet he still does that but he's learning that you put your loved one's needs before your own. And THAT then feeds into his realisation that he has to be as selfless with his mum as well. **(If anyone wants to argue that his mum shouldve put Aditya's needs before her own then it could be argued that she waited till he was a grown up, etc, etc.)

So, yeah, being around Geet makes him realise that his mum had to go with the man she loved because that was her personality and he accepted that (notice that he is respectful at the board meeting). It's only later when his love for Geet makes him want to see her happy that he realises he wants his mum to be happy as well - that's when he gets past what the mum did. And she gets invited to his wedding, etc.

There's a reason you aren't directing films...
