Americans are doofuses!

Although this was a Weinstein Brothers production it was never released to cinemas in the US.

Probably because pizza-munching, pimply American teenagers would not want to see a film full of yellow people.

Disgusting!

Or, moron, more probably (and insiders have spoken of this) that Harvey Weinstein shelved it to piss some people off.

He should go back to Club One in Buffalo...

Though he wasn't particularly good at running a bar, either.

As for you, turdbrain, the overwhelming take on this film is that it's a train wreck. My guess is Americans are too smart to waste the money on it. See, teens only get the money their parents give them- those selfsame parents get to make a lot of decision for the kids, and themselves.

Where are you from? Germany? Still goose-stepping your way to the theaters?

I take it back. I just watched this movie. It's NOT a train wreck. In fact, it's a dark, atmospheric, interesting intrigue of a movie. The story is dense, and because a lot of people are too, they're not going to get it. But if you invest the time, you'll be rewarded with a movie dripping in noir.

There were politics within the Chinese Communist Party involved here. After heavy financial investment, certain officials said they didn't like a Japanese actor (Ken Watanabe) playing a Japanese man. And whatever Chinese actorwho played him as a Japanese had to be 200 percent bad like a cartoon villain for permission to continue.

The production had to be moved out of the country. Weinstein had to double expenses to $40,000,000 by going to outsiders for the money which caused problems. Then when the production was within a week of being completed, they got word they could film in China after all. But it was too late.

Supposedly there are now newer officials who aren't political hardliners. I think it was more of a case of people having their hand out wanting money who were corrupt.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
