Passchendaele (review)

I know odd things happen during war. I am familiar with the "Silent Night" story from WWI. However, this film stretches the bounds of believability to a new level. I thought the film lacked credibility on several fronts, especially the poorly developed love story and weak character development. Instead, the film gives us sluggish pacing interrupted by incredible visually exciting war scenes that stand in stark contrast to the brooding dialogue. Visually incredible, but could have used a better script. My full review can be found at:

Funny, your mini-review could fit for Flyboys too!! I actually think the review fits Flyboys better because that really did have multiple good action scenes interrupting the plodding non-war scenes. This movie only has two war scenes - at the beginning and at the end.

I'd say the worst thing about the movie (aside from the unmentionable, cringe-inducing hit-the-audience-over-the-head with symbollism at the end) was the totally unlikeable brother. I didn't care if he lived or died (in fact, I would have rather he died). Since I thought the brother was awful, I found the ending even worse than I would have if I liked him.
