I really enjoyed the movie as a political metaphor

I really enjoyed the movie as a political metaphor, but besides that, it is also a pretty good comedy. It is said “everybody can do politics”, the first impression is that all this… game is so easy and even a child can play it well. Alex is taught to compliment the food (to gain women’s votes) and approve all the petitions (to gain men’s votes). But, as the movie cleverly shows, nobody ever wants the same thing and faking could be so disturbing that you would feel that the ideal doesn’t even matter so much. And, in the end, nobody knows what really motivated the people to act in a certain way and not in another. The movie shows quite well a piece of the reality from Balkan communities using as background a Cretan village. The characters, with different personalities and different goals, are united just by “Democracy” (suggesting the party for which they struggle to hold political power), a character of its own, vaguely defined, but with the great power of messing everybody’s lives.
