All of us at The Quietus (www.thequietus.com) put together a list of the 10 best Heavy Metal films after being inspired by Heavy Metal in Baghdad.

Any additions, subtractions, comments, concerns?

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey is good, and Some Kind of Monster must surely be the best music documentary of any kind of music.
Bill and Ted isn't a metal film in any sense, don't know how that got there. Just because they like hair-metal and play air guitar? Tenuous.
Spinal Tap is somewhat overrated IMO, although I do get its importance to that style of comedy.
The rest I'm not familiar with.
What are your thoughts?
PS I came here after reading that article too

Spinal Tap is not overrated at all. It rightfully sits at #1 on the list...
Some Kind of Monster is just alright as far as movies go. It definitely would have made more of an impact had St. Anger not been more of the same old terrible Metallica.
Airheads is awful, seriously WTF is it doing on the list?

Where is Heavy Metal Parking Lot?

Well, considering the dearth of metal-related films out there, it's an acceptable list I suppose. Those two un-noteworthy Spinal Tap wannabes should be excised though, and replaced with 'The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years' and the recently released 'Global Metal'. 'Until the Light Takes Us' should also be considered, even though it's only been screened in a few festivals as far as I'm aware with no theatrical release planned yet.

You could make a case for River's edge.

You should definitely add "Anvil - The Story of Anvil" to the list. It's a great documentary!

And top it up with More Bad News with Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall. Hilarious sh!te.

That link goes to a review of "Heavy Metal in Baghdad," there's NO list of heavy metal movies whatsoever. I think the page changed since 2008. Anyway, what I was gonna say was, why even bother making a list of "the top 10 heavy metal films" when you can't even think of 10 movies with a heavy metal theme to begin with!? If there were like, 100 of them and you wanted to pick the best 10 of THAT, then I could understand. But when you're hard-pressed to come up with 10 movies in general with even a little bit of a heavy metal content, then making a "top 10" list is pointless. You're going to force stuff onto the list that has no business being there, like Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure, which I'm only guessing was on the list because of people's comments. I mean...there's nothing "heavy metal" about it at all. Like someone else said, how about River's Edge? That had more metal content than 3 of those other movies combined.

Let's just face the fact that there just aren't many movies with genuine heavy metal content.

I agree that "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" is not a heavy metal film, but do you really think "River's Edge" is? Sure, it has some metal songs on the soundtrack, but it's a teenage psychological morality play (an an excellent one at that), not a metal film.

Here are a few other titles that I think should be considered: "Heavy Metal Parking Lot," "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny," "Decline of the Western Civilization: Part II," "Dream Deceivers" and "Some Kind of Monster." Also, "Beavis and Butt-head Do America" embodies the feel (and soundtrack) of heavy metal.

"Wayne's World" contains metal, but I'm not sure it's a heavy metal film. Ditto for the animated "Heavy Metal" fantasy film. "Airheads" and "Rock Star" are more embarrassing than metal, in my opinion.

There really is a sad dearth of heavy metal films outside of concert movies, so any top 10 list will have a lot of defaults.
