Well, that only would have happened if the survivors walked away, correct?

So if there is only one winner in the end, the remaining 455's families actually got fuck-all - is that accurate?

Then why would 187 people have come back to play if they actually knew there would only be ONE winner? Far not all of them even had reasons to believe that they would be the one. That would have meant that not only would they have knowingly been leaving their families in crushing debt, then, but also permanently depriving them of a provider.

It was never said there would only be one winner. The organizers told them something to the effect of: "If you survive all six games, then you win". The last game (the squid game) was a team game. If more than 2 people are making it into the finale, the winning team (consisting of however many people) could walk away! There was no mention of there being only one winner, in this edition of the games it happened to be 2 people in the sixth game, so it was down to one winner.

Could be wrong but I believe at that point, most still thought there could be multiple winners.
