SPOILER ALERT
It doesn't even make sense. Killer riddled with bullets gets away from the ambulance and arrives at the house unscathed.
It only makes sense that the producers wanted more bang for their bucks.

So it ends up ending like every Scream and Halloween (and every slasher film ever made). And it tried to complete the circle, to finish the killing that caused the switch - which would end any chance of Kathryn trying to talk about what happened.
