Did any WHITE people see this?

I know I didnt.

reply

I'm white and I'm telling you to shut your ignorant ass up. Now.

Whaaat, you crazy? Since a bucktooth baby, I been like, straight f*%k you, pay me, like Jay-Z

reply

okay jeffro my sincerest apologies. I'll try not to say anything that your very sensitive eyes might see. Maybe if people would all make tounge-in-cheek, semi-racist JOKES as opposed to actually telling someone to "shut their ignorant ass up" we wouldnt have such awful predudice and hatered in the first place.

reply

dude, are u racist?

reply

I'm mixed with black and white and I saw this movie.....why does it matter what race you are anyways...this is a damn good movie so dont post about something you havent seen.

reply

"why does it matter what race you are anyways"?It shouldn't! I'm white and I
all I care about is the story and the telling of it.(I also like foreign films.)

reply

If you thought this was a "damn good movie" you are a "damn FOOL".

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions but my God, this is just plain AWFUL.

reply

Run_Mr_Postman, you could not understand what they were saying in the Great Debaters?? So black movie don't do well because people cannot understand what they say, have you ever heard of Tyler Perry??

reply

...you will enjoy this movie. Great message and a lot of heart. I took my ten-year-old daughter and her friend and we all loved it (yes, we're all white).

Please don't call this a 'black' film; the piece of dung 'Soul Plane' may very well be, but this is just a film with a predominantly black cast. The color of the actors shouldn't matter, it was a very good film.

This film's failure had little to do with race, mostly it had to do with a lack of promotional effort on the part of the Weinsteins and MGM.

patrickstibbs you are so right !

reply

Yup that person is right! I'm not white or black, I'm Hispanic, and I just finished watching this movie and it was a great movie, good for all ages!!

The only people on this same EARTH who like happy family movies are brainwashed religious people. It's a proven fact.

reply

A proven fact? Really? Post the study ....
Moron.

reply

In our theater, it was 60% white and 40% black.

If you remove the three people from my family, it would have been 100% black.

It's a bummer that white people essentially boycott "black" films. While the the principles of this movie were African American, the issues certainly weren't.

The movie was about redemption, self-esteem, feminism and family.

Come-to-think-of-it, racism hardly played a role in the story line.

reply

I'm not actually racist. It just looks like a film that is going to appeal to black people more than whites. I mean, Fred Durst is the director, which makes it pretty easy to assume that this isnt that great. If it is indeed as great as you say it is maybe I'll go see it.

reply

There is something wrong with you. Get a life and try your hardest to stay in school. You obviously have issues and I'm surprised your little posts even get replies.

reply

i saw the movie last night with my wife we are both white. i didnt actually didnt count but most of the audience were black. the movie was good. better than most of the movies ive seen lately. some of the movie is a rehash of some football movies but the storyline and overall goodfeel to the movie makes it a good family movie.

reply

I wouldn't call it "great" -- but more "surprisingly good."

If you have kids, then I'd really recommend. Otherwise, I'd say "you could do worse."

reply

Here's the thing, there have been plenty of good quality black films made, where you can understand exactly what's being said, but the problem is that some "white people" will not even consider watching a film simply because it has a predomiately black cast, which I find disappointing. Black people have always had to deal with watching films or TV with predominately white cast, and I don't recall seeing "Did any black people see this?". Maybe if more white people could step out of their comfort zone of watching films with a cast of mostly white people, maybe this could truely be a society where race really doesn't matter, it's not about Hollywood it's about what it's always been about stereotypic ignorant attitudes.

reply

That's because films with an all black cast are usually made for and or directed towards black audiences. I'm not saying they are all made that way, but not many white people watch BET. Maybe if black people would step out of their comfort zone where all white people just HAVE to be either racist or gay, maybe it really COULD be a society where race doesn't matter. I know that white people have certainly done their fair share of ignorant & racist things in the past, but I don't see why ALL white people TODAY have to be punished for the past. You're right, it's about stereotypic ignorant attitudes, just like the one you're putting forward right now. AND FOR THE PEOPLE THAT I KNOW WILL ASK THIS, I'M NOT RACIST.

reply

White people have done WAY MORE than their fair share of racist things in the past, actually. I worded it in a wrong way when I made that post up there :D

reply

Okay I really don't know where you're coming from, but what audience is a movie with one black person in it, and the rest of the cast white appealing to, what I stated in my comment is legitimate, I mean how many so called black movies have you really seen to come up with that analogy. My analogy on the other hand is based closer to reality, because I've actually seen hundreds of movies where there are predominately white cast and blacks being betrayed as second class citizens. There was nothing in my comment that stated anything about all white people, because not all white people are racist, nor are all black people. Usually people who aren't racist don't have to make the statement that they're not.

reply

And incidentally I don't watch BET that often myself, contrary to you I don't only watch one kind of program or film because it's black or white, I watch it because of the content, bad in black or white is still just bad.

reply

lowcarb5,
what the F*U*C*K are you talkin about??!!

reply

Well if it matters or not.
Im white and i love black movies!!!
Friday after next is my traditional X-mas movie!
And im still hoping for new Friday movies in the future.

Btw: Loads of people on IMDB give retarded ratings on movies!
1 star ratings for actors they hate , and ofcourse movies they didnt even see.
Thats why u must see the movie yourself!

reply

Come on... It's not about the movie is it? It's not that maybe I never even heard of this movie before because it was poorly marketed which probably means that's why it wasn't a blockbuster? It wasn't about this movie not being full of action or suspense or end up being a thriller? It wasn't about this movie maybe actually not being the greatest movie out there? It's about `some white people` not coming out of their comfort zone? You're pretty quick to jump on the prejudice/racist bandwagon huh?

I think this movie probably wasn't a blockbuster mainly for the reasons laid out. The Friday series, although containing only a few white people, in a rather trivial and stereotypical role themselves, did very well because it appealed to a young crowd, was marketed pretty well, got good word of mouth because of its audience and had the very same Ice Cube in it.

There is also this thing about thinking because people outside of some of the american black culture don't associate with it, they're somehow closed minded or racist... That is pretty racist or at least prejudiced in and of itself.
Whether you see it or not, white people aren't really invited with open arms into the black community. Neither are many asians, latinos, or immigrant africans... it's rather exclusive actually. Of course this might be different in some places, I'm only speaking from my experience in 3 large american cities. And growing up.. I was not accepted very easily by most black people -- Being white usually meant I was an outsider... Only a couple guys became good friends and trustworthy both ways.... I mean really - You won't sell me some weed because I'm white... which means I might be a cop?? lol - that happened too often when I was younger... for weed!!! Who cares about weed?

Most white people I know, snd you may consider this racist as it is based on race, try to be overly kind to black people because there's this huge cloud of guilt that hangs over most of them, due to the misdeeds of some people most people in the last 2 generations had no contact with or even much knowledge of...

You also can't deny that the people in the 13-25 age range have grown up in a pop culture dominated by hip hop and various forms of rap. And those two types of music are dominated by black people - so much so that only 1 or 2 white people have successfully broken into that realm (eminem and the guy with 36mafia... not vanilla ice lol - he's ridiculed). White men, anyway, don't get much publicity; white women however are all over the modern hip hop and rap videos. Does that really not seem like there is a huge racist attitude against white people who like to rap or like the beats? Can we not attribute your allegations of white people's attitude towards black movies to the same attitudes towards white rappers?

My overall point is that I'm beyond irritated at the racism going all ways. Being white I obviously am irritated more at people holding racist attitudes towards white people (mainly because nobody ever acknowledges that it's true), but I won't stand by someone saying something racist towards black people or other races either. The only hard part with this is that there are a whole lot of white kids who want to say the N word so badly because everyone tells them they're not allowed to because they're white... meanwhile every other word out of certain icons mouths are the exact word that white people would be persecuted for uttering. That doesn't work out so well for me. I can see why the white kids have such a hard time with it... You tell someone they can't say something, they are obviously going to want to say it. It's time for the word to just disappear because black people feel they have a right to kick the crap out of any white person that says it and many white kids don't take too well to being told they can't do something... it's ridiculous...

Sorry, got kind of way off subject -

Since we're talking about movies with most or all of the roles played by black people, here are some I found pretty good or at least decent.

Clockers? Good movie...
New Jack City - so so...
Old Foxy Brown and the like movies... exploitative/low budget bad production. But Pam Grier is looking very nice in them. And yes, that would be the exploitative part.
Barbershop - I thought parts were pretty funny. But just typical.. I couldn't get past Cedric looking stupid in his old man get up.
Malcolm X - Really enjoyed this. I think I first saw it when I was 14 or 15 and it made an impression.
Shaft - fun to watch.
He got game - Me and my mom actually went to see this together. Not really her type of movie though - She doesn't like the cursing and fights obviously.

All of those got a pretty good showing and were almost solely black films. I'm sure there are a bunch more, these are just some that came to mind.

Please don't use racism as the first reason why something isn't working out as planned. I'm sure sometimes it is the reason, but it's thrown out way too often...

WTF!!!
man Soul Plane sucked ass
But...
I do work at at least one movie in America
and I know not every theater is the same
But the Great Debaters did not tank.
Why are white people so obsessed with Will Smith?
Do they not know that Mr. Smith was not always the
acting "guru" that he is today?
No.
Will Smith used to be a RAPPER!!!
Yes a Rapper...Take it in now.
Although there are so many good BLACK actors
such as Alfre Woodard, Laurence Fishbourne, etc
I think the most universal is Denzel Washington

Hey man you forgot Morgan Freeman my fave!!!
Don't forget Sidney Poitier too!
p.s. I'm white!!!!!!!!!!

What is it with color? White, Black, Yellow, Brown, Red, Blue it doesn't matter at all. Skin color does not tell anything. Where you are borne, what culture, what religion your parents have, will tell you something about a person, but honestly it is about time that you guys grow up and focus on other things than skin color.

reply

Im white but does it really matter?? I saw it. Thought it was good. A 'HUGE LEAP' for ICE-Cube. I like seing him take on some serious roles everynow and then. After the 'XXX State of the Union' disaster. I had my Doubts Seriously did anyone realy seen that flop??
