Questions (spoilers)

- With the Silver plan, how did they transport the Mexicans all over the country? Drive them there?

- And with the Gold plan, how did they also get the guys jobs?

- If the two guys were good friends since at least high school, why was Jay filling vending machines? He seemed really smart to me; Surely Steve could have got him a good job at one of his companies.

- Would anyone else (among you nonexistent posters) have preferred a happier ending?

Silver / Gold plan: It's obvious that the whole idea was very spontaneous, they checked all the "technical" aspects (tunnels, dessert, check points etc.), but not further. I suppose driving them around was the option for silver, and none of the imigrants is able to pay for gold, so no real gold option imho.

I also had an issue with the friend situation. At first I did not see the friendly link between J and Steve, it arose later, but from my perspective driven by the smugling business. J was always doing the job, crossing borders, talking, aranging, be in danger. And Steve was more or less picking cherrys. So ...

... at the end is totaly Ok that he paid that price. A happier ending would have killed the movie.

Maybe Steve bought them Greyhound bus tickets with the Silver plan. The Gold plan job thing beats me. What struck me as funny was Steve and Jay were soliciting the plans to the Mexicans in the streets with no idea of the potential for danger. Steve struck me as a surfer type where everything has gone swell in life and can't comprehend any adverse situations that may arise.

The ending was good for me as it fits in with real life. Great enjoyable film with a lot of suspense.

I shouldn't admit this, but it kind of reminds me of something I might do: think so hard about the dangers from border security that the other dangers get ignored. I might just figure that there was tons of business to go around, so no one would get pissed off at me. I wouldn't be so calm about it all after the first incident, though. And I'd imagine that the issue would have come up during all the research they were doing.

Yeah, it was a great movie, but in a sense it was also something of a bait-and-switch, as they allude to in the commentary: You start out with what's basically a comedy, and I always like movies where people don't really know what they're doing and have to figure things out as they go along. (Homegrown's a good example of this, I think.) But then it got darker, and it was a little unpleasant for me to worry about two guys I liked a lot.

Frankly, I think they made the fiance as annoying as possible, but I could have done without her tragedy at the end.

I wasn't able to see the ending! I only got to when J screwed the other guy by bringing all of the other guys (who would have died in the desert) to his stake-out when another minuteman saw them walking straight toward him. J really infuriated me at that moment - yes, it was horrible for those poor guys but they are doing something illegal and calling so much attention to them was a huge mistake.
So, could someone PLEASE tell me what happens in the end? Obviously I know the other guy dies (its the first scene) but what happens to the fiance? What happens to J? I've tried looking it up and I can't find any info!

It's playing on Showtime and The Movie Channel right now (looks like next showing is June 2). You can also get it on Netflix.

You should watch it - takes some twists and turns after the desert scene.
