English trying to Be 'Gangster' and 'LA'

The trailer soundtrack is a hairs breadth removed from the Training Day trailer, the overhead pans and zooms of London, the themes, the feel the look.

Its all just an attempt to make England look like an Elroy film.

Awful. 1/10

Agree, I also felt the american theme 'cinematically' although I thought more a New York edge. Regardless, it was an utter pile of sh!t!

Apart from watching the trailer have you actually watched the film?

How can I miss you if you wont go away?

reply

No, and dont really intend to either. Why cant the English just be like the English? Because its utterly depressing or what> I dont know.

All I know is that when they try to be all Elroy, its a massive fail. Street Kings, Training Day, Dark Blue type films just dont work in a London setting, because LA isnt London. Neither is NY London. So its a massive fail and an obvious attempt to be something that its not. Its like the black youth in England, and the brown youth, they have nothing to cling on to, so they all try to be West Coast rap in style, speech etc.

Its hilarious, but its all fail.

reply

Well thats where you now look a fool. Because although it has been blled as a gangster film. Its not. Nothing like.

How can I miss you if you wont go away?

reply

Yes mother. Now if you read my post, you will see that it said that the film was trying to be something that it was not. Whether its a gangster film or a crime film or a this film or a that film, who cares, the trailer borrowed heavily from Training Day and other Elroy type films. Because it seems these days thats what every English film wants to do, copy US themes. Its no wonder the Bourne series are about 1000x better than the Bond series these days.

Nuff said.

My point is 'son' if you have not watched it you can not comment on a trailer alone. The trailer was not cut by the director or the film makers. it was cut by the distributer, they are trying to distribute it to Dyer fans, it is NOT a typical Dyer film.

In order to formulate a considered and factual argument as to why you dislike the film,or what you think the film is trying to be you need to watch it.

How can I miss you if you wont go away?

reply

you are so wrong about this. i know from the trailer i also thought, oh no not another *beep* gangsta flick BUT its not. not even close. it touches on themes of crime etc but its more about the meaning of life, love, friendship, brotherhood etc.

reply

you replied to the wrong post. i am not wrong the chap i am arguing with is. Please make sure you reply to the correct post as all you have done is reiterate what i put

How can I miss you if you wont go away?

The film looks like a big fail.

The trailer alone looks like a triehard Training Day.

And thats not good, because London gangers trying be like LA gangers is just not cool.

I agree with both sides here. Yes, it really does look like a wannabe Training Day but the film is NOTHING like it. The whole trailer is marketed towards Danny Dyer fans but this really is not a typical Dyer film at all. He isnt really even the main character, there are 8 main characters and how their lives intertwine. I swear it is nothing like Training Day (a film I love) and isnt trying to be. It is just that the trailer is geared up to look like it for some reason....

This film is poor - but british films are way better than American!

I'm sorry, did you say the english want to copy US themes? Says the country that ripped of The Italian Job, ripped of James Bond, ripped of classic English stories, for example the movie 'The Memphis Belle' that was originally an ENGLISH book with an ENGLISH plane and an ENGLISH crew, all the Americans ever do is take credit for other peoples work, for example i have an American dictionary and supposedly the Americans invented the Spitfire, the radio, and a whole load of other things. And another thing when Captain ( I cant remember his name) went to the North Pole, Sweden found him. But the Americans took the credit, just like they took the credit for the war, the Americans say if it wasn't for them Europe would be speaking German, in truth if it wasn't for RUSSIA Europe would be speaking German. I mean the Americans dont even know Britain is involved in the Afganistan war for god sakes!!!!

lol I love the way that black london youths and brown ones are the same as americans. Coz american rap is grime right and roll deep is so similar to wu tang clan, you know nothing. i guess films like bullet boy are just like boyz n the hood and i find it laughable that you try to say that the bourne identity series can even compare to james bond

your right to the trailer did make it look like a movie involving bent cops stealing from drug dealers and trying to kill eachother, not something about several interwoven people in london involved in some sort of gansterish theme

Agree with you 100% Bod... Not all but most Americans don't know fyck all about anything historical.
