He is becoming a Sci-Fi movie regular now. First he did Snake King and now this. I actually think he has done others as well.

You would have thought Adam Baldwin would have changed his name so he wouldn't be mistaken as a sibling to this tribe of thimpering thespians: Stephen, Alec, William and co.

If you read the comments in his biography on IMDB, Stephen Baldwin makes no pretense that acting is a great art or adds meaning to life like some of the more pretentious, overpaid idiots that Hollywood produces. For him, it is a way to make a living. He is content with it. So what is your problem? By now you should know that any movie with him in the lead role is not going to be a serious Hollywood Meaningful Movie, whatever the hell those are supposed to be about. What you will get is a wonderfully cheesy film, which may, or may not, have some kind of halfway decent storyline.

But think for a moment. If Baldwin is such a bad actor, why was he cast in The Usual Suspects? Maybe it is because he is a professional who knows how to deliver when he has to.

reply

Wow, that's kind of depressing. I mean, I know we all need money to survive, but making nothing but completely useless movies like he does is basically just admitting, "Hey, I'm a waste of space."

Sure, I guess he's happy, but considering his performance in The Usual Suspects, it's kind of sad that his talent is now going purely into hideously cheesy stuff like Sharks in Venice, where he delivers horrible performances that offer no shadow of awesomeness to the acting in his earlier movies. He's got such a bad rep now that if he ever wanted to be in a good movie again, no one would hire him.

The funniest thing about this film was the editing. They re-used a scene of Baldwin's head turning around, looking like a twat, at least three times. I pre-ordered this. 10 quid. Probably worth it. Nothing like wasting money to have fun. Mmm.

reply

Haha, so many times they reused shots. Also they used the alley way in about 10 different ways, by moving/removing chairs and tables.

But this wasn't as bad as we expected. It's a STV movie about sharks in canals with Stephen Baldwin. Anyone who expected more than what this movie provided is a fool...

In no way am I trying to justify anything about this "film" but in regards to filming in Venice, Italy, you need to realize this is one of the most expensive locations in the world to film.
Filming permits are advertised to take 2 weeks to process. More like 2 months, (with a "donation"), and on a back, back, back alley run about $5,000 a day, plus "extras". The closer you get to the Grand Canal or St. Marks and the price goes way up and fast. Venice is also one of the most corrupt cities to film in and those "extras" can cost you 2x-3x the day rate. Your permit is very, very specific as to the location and they enforce the time to the second. If you haven't made any "donations" to the Venice location manager, you can be rolling in the middle of a shot and when your time is up, the barriers come down and the people come flooding in.
With over 60,000 tourists visiting Venice per day, not including tourists in the shot can be a royal pain in the ass.
The other problem is hotel accommodations. Of course the stars will demand to stay at the Hotel Danieli @$750-$1,200 a night. Crew staying at an economy hotel will run $250 a night, so even doubling up will cost loads of money. You won't find a Motel 6 in Venice.
The most important item you can carry is cash. Not euros, no travelers checks, but US dollars. Every and ANY problem/obstacle can immediately disappear with cash in hand to any Venice official. And trust me, they will come out of the woodwork to collect.

So yes, on a high quality production such as this one, they used the same location over and over... and over. Most of this film was shot in Bulgaria for a reason.

Are you telling me you don't think this film would be a hell of a lot of fun to make? I've an extra on a number of crappy, low budget, student films and the like; also an extra through in Glasgow for World War Z... talk about boring! I'd work on a piece of crap film like this over a film with plot, decent effects, a professional crew - all that boring stuff - any day of the week. ESPECIALLY if I didn't really need the money all that bad.

he is overshadowed by his more famous brother,so at this point in life he has given up on trying,he is like robert de niro, dolph lundgren etc etc etc, they take the roles they get and do them and get paid.
also see: jason statham, steve austin etc etc..

Are you comparing Stephen Baldwin to Robert De Niro? Dolph Lundgren I get but De Niro? Are you high? And your comparison is nonexistent because De Niro and Dolph Lundgren are not overshadowed by their brother(s) if they have them. And at least Lundgren has a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering to fall back on, Baldwin only has his family's wealth who he currently may be estranged from based on his political and religious leanings.
