Alfred Molina returning as Doctor Octopus

I thought thy wanted Tom Holland's Spider-Man to stand on its own and not bring back character's from other franchises. Wasn't that the reason they gave for not bringing back Mary Jane. Now it seems like everyone is returning except Uncle Ben.
