in my experience, at times there are songs that are expressly written for soundtracks.
my first wife, Holly Sherwood, was a background singer in the 80s for world famous rock producer, Jim Steinman (Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply, Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand). Steinman and Holly and her male singing partners (Rory Dodd & Eric Troyer) were contracted to submit songs for the movie "Streets of Fire" in 1981-82. Holly recorded one of those songs, not as a background singer, but as the LEAD... and it ended up being Diane Lane's voice in the movie soundtrack. Steinman didn't have Holly's best interests at heart, however, he agreed to release the songs as recorded by the fictitious band "Fire, Inc."...
to this day, Holly has never received adequate credit for being Lane's singing voice on the film. very sad.
all that said, i feel strongly that "We'll Never Settle Down" is a case in point: written, produced and recorded strictly for the soundtrack, no more, no less.
i'd think you should just buy the Soundtrack CD, and contact the movie studio that released Impact Point for any rights you wish to purchase for additional usage.
