Either the synopsis I read is wrong or the character list is wrong.

And at one point, the reporter calls Ann Mrs. Black. Why call her Mrs. Black if she is the recent widow of Gov Danville?

I believe that she must have married Danville and he died and then she married Mr. Black. And yet, Nathan is a Danville?

How can Nathan be a Danville? They kept talking about step fathers, and step sisters, and fathers.

Honestly, this movie takes the cake for confusing.
I was so worried about who was Nathan's actual father I couldn't concentrate.

Your answer is right in your post. Mr. Danville was her first husband and Nathan's father. The second husband was Mr. Black, hence why she's called Mrs. Black. Nathan and Mr. Black's daughter would be step brother and sister.
