Brendan and Espn

I found the relationship between these two really interesting, both kids are dealing with 'missing' parents. Espn is pretending that her mother is still there. She is hiding her pain in fantasy.

Brendan is trying too hard to be a man. He is trying to be the 'man' of the house. He is talking like he thinks men talk. He is coming on to the babysitter. He tries to protect his mother from the man at the door.

I like how the two gravitate towards each other. They actual have a real cute scene at the pool and a real conversation<something their parents weren't able to do at the time>. Later, we see them playing drums and having stepping beyond their loses to have fun. Finally at Mom's grand appearance, they are busy talking to each other and laughing.

If their parent's didn't hook up, it would have been interesting to see if they would have become friends.
