Lauren and her attitude

In the beginning, Lauren seems like a woman who for some reason hates men. It's understandable that she and Jim despise each other so much despite the first blind date gone bad.
But overtime she warms up, learns to loosen up and "let go of the reins a little bit". But this is what I want to know: She never even asked any questions about Jim's family or his late wife so who is she to assume anything or correct his daughter Hillary using the word "Butthole" or even managing Hilary without asking his permission first? Or making an unfair statement that Jim works at hooters when in fact his wife did?
Lauren was a total tramp in the beginning and I want to know why? Was she just mad at the world for what happened with her and Mark?
And where does Brendan get off calling an adult a Douchebag and threatening to kill him? He's just asking for it

The name-calling is hardly an issue. Hillary called HER SON a "butthole". If someone called your child a name, I'm sure you'd correct them, too.

When you say "managing" her, are you referring to the scene where she's giving Hilary tips are how to dress and offering to take her to the salon? If so...

1.) At that point, Lauren and Jim had already started to become close and I'm sure she had become comfortable being around his kids and all. Same goes for Hillary, as she had already grown fond of Lauren.

2.) She didn't really say that she "didn't need her dad's permission", she had told Hilary she'd take her to the salon and she was hesitant because she said she'd have to "go ask her dad for money" but that's when Lauren said she'd pick up the tab. At the same time, Jim had allowed Lauren's youngest son to hop on the ostrich for a ride, without asking her for permission. Also, Hilary wanted and needed a female role model in her life. The fact that she gave Hillary pointers on how to dress and other things like that was a good thing because it was all info that she couldn't get from her dad because he was oblivious to it and the fact that she needed it. He treated her like she was his son, which she didn't appreciate that.

Lauren was a total tramp in the beginning and I want to know why?

...How was she a 'tramp'?

And where does Brendan get off calling an adult a Douchebag and threatening to kill him? He's just asking for it
Lauren was a t

Well, he most likely got off for it because he mother wasn't there to correct him and Jim didn't seem to interested in correcting him either, so...

Your last sentence there doesn't really make sense.

It feels good to be lost in the right direction. 🌌

What I meant by Lauren being a tramp was by her approach to Jim's parenting towards his daughters and her obliviousness and arrogance to how hard it was for him despite his wife's death.
When she fixed up Hillary, I thought she was trying to make Jim look like a lousy person and a bad father. And steal her away from him. Just because Jim didn't know anything about proper daughter raising doesn't mean he's a bad parent. The same goes for Lauren as well.

Lauren was a tramp by acting the way she did towards Jim by assumptions that he was divorced and not having any kids... WHEN HE DID!!
She was being judgmental to him and even tried to make Jim the bad guy when she made Hilary look beautiful... and what hit me was the fact that she took away the last memory of his wife away from him... ON PURPOSE!!!
I think you'd be offended too if someone did that to you.

I never got the opinion that, "Lauren was a total tramp in the beginning." In fact, I felt she hadn't had many dates since her marriage break-up. They both referred to last dating in college - and married. Neither one was comfortable at that first meeting which was one reason things went so badly. I also got the opinion that he was known by the waitresses at Hooters because he had been there so much. If the date had been longer, maybe they would have found out more about each other?

What I meant by Lauren was a total tramp was that she wasn't being fair to Jim. Can't imagine you with three daughters or calling Hilary a bear or flipping him off in front of Lou without a care in the world she was witnessing it. Even accusing Jim of nearly killing her son and using it to justify her actions when she turned Hilary into Claudia schiffer.
That's what I thought at first at the time, it's just my feeling you can't judge anyone until you hear their story from that person alone. That was HER mistake and she had to pay for it

I think you use tramp to have a different meaning 'tramp' generally means sexually promiscuous woman...

reply

I agree, the choice of the word tramp confused me...given how the poster proceeded to describe that flaws in Hilary's behavior. For me, "tramp" has the connotation of sexual promiscuity.

Perhaps the poster could've found another appelation that better fits the kind of person described. IOW, I could see how some of the examples the poster described might reflect inappropriate behavior. But I'd chalk that up to "Sandler's style" of humor. His humor is often a bit colorful and on the shady side of appropriate. That doesn't bother me, but it might not be what others like.

I don't mean tramp as in sexually promiscuous, I mean tramp as in a mean spirited woman who cares about nothing or no one but herself. .my question was why was she like that to him and his family?
