The older son making fun of the middle daughter

I get kids do this when they have a crush, but making fun of her because of her dead mom seemed awfully out of character. Like, I was a prick as a kid and I would have never done that. And it's not like the kid is a bully. He's needy. Just seemed like a really out of place thing.
