The documentary is a pretty good look at the life of Nicky Barnes and his council, however, the piece avoids mention of a significant event in the story. Since the execution of the young woman named Sheneka is addressed, the other side of that coin should also be viewed. While Nicky Barnes, and the 6-men of the council, and Frank Lucas were all drug kingpins, no one man nor one group of men will ever control all of NYC...it is simply too big to be controlled! One of the biggest men in this line of work was the Jewish Gangster known as Mr. Manhatten, Herbie Sperling, who imported and sold more cocaine in NYC than any other at the time. Herbie and Nicky ended up at the U.S. Pen at Marion, Ill. at the same time. It was during this period that Nicky first reached out to the feds. The feds were absolutely astounded that Nicky Barnes was ready to talk to them. Therefore they required Nicky to pass a quickly devised test to see just how serious he really was about snitching. Under the feds direction, Nicky set up a drug deal with Herbie: Nicky told Herbie he needed a couple kilos of cocaine and that he would trade a kilo of pure heroin for it. Herbie jumped at the bargain, and had his son in NYC work the deal. Nicky had one of his underlings work the heroin end of the trade. The feds of course, watched and filmed the trade - and busted Herbies son. The execution of the woman at the nightclub was the work of Jewish hitmen, who said aloud as they left the scene - Tell Nicky to keep his mouth shut.
