Manhunt 1 WAY BETTER THAN MANHUNT 2

Is it just me, or does anyone else out there feel this way??? I bought Manhunt 1 the first day it came out, and it wasn't popular at all. It was one of the sweetest games I have ever played. I remember that the reviews didn't give this game a whole lot, and thats why I even liked it more. They also said that Manhunt 1 had no replay value. I found that wrong. I waited 4 years for a Manhunt 2, so I just kept playing Manhunt 1 over and over. And even thought I knew EXACTLY where every single hunter was, and what they would do, I still enjoyed the heck out of the game. And even after playing it so many times, Pigsy still scares me everytime he pops out for the first time in the level Deliverence =]

Everything about Manhunt 1 is just perfect in my eyes and everything in Manhunt 2 is either repetetive, annoying, or corny. When I first bought Manhunt 2, I went straight to the INSANE difficulty and I seriously beat the game in about 7-8 hours. I had to stop myself every couple of levels and wait until the next day to play it just so I wouldn't ruin the whole experience for myself by waiting 4 years for this game, only to beat it the first day it came out.

The executions in Manhunt 2 were kind of cool; I even really liked the Environmental Executions IF I COULD 'EFFIN SEE WHAT THE HECK WAS GOIN ON! I got a headache everytime I would execute someone; I felt like I was on an acid trip everytime I executed someone too. That was one of the main things I loved about Manhunt 1 was how you could see the executions and how cool they were. James Earl Cash was perfect in Manhunt 1. He was actually intimidating. Daniel Lamb looked like a sissy which really set me off.

In Manhunt 2, if you got your hands on a gun, it was game over. You could be cornered by 6 hunters with M-16's and you'd still get out of there easy. Manhunt 2 QUICKLY turned from a stealth game to a run-and-gun crappy adventure. Sometimes I thought I accidentally bought Max Payne because of all the shooting (Max Payne quicks an insane amount of a$$ by the way).

The storyline sucked, unlike Manhunt 1. The sex dungeon in the basement of the Stip Club level was alright, but I felt like I was in the movie Hostel. I thought the whole ordeal between Danny and Leo would be cool, but further on into the game it just got annoying and repetetive.

I'm sorry if I had offended anyone in this rant, but I know there are people out there that feel like I do. Manhunt 2 was an alright game, but it wasn't like anything I had hoped for; especially after playing Manhunt 1.

Not to mention they took away some gameplay features.......for example, you can't grab anyone in manhunt 2 and punch them/knee them 3 times like in the first game (this was done by pressing square and x together to grab them, then hitting the buttons together repeatedly to throw the 3 hit combo). In Manhunt 2 you only have one punch button now, which makes it next to impossible to throw those quick punch/hard punch combos that made the fighting in the first game fun.

Now this game is all about 100 percent PURE stealth.....which wouldn't suck so bad if we could actually SEE the executions.

This game to me was a HUGE downscale.....meaning it went from being a great game with good gameplay/features to a mediocre game with LESS features. Doesn't make sense in my book, games should improve....not the opposite!

I enjoyed Manhunt 1 a lot. Basically it's a great thrill, following 'victims' around, having to carefully time the execution in order to get to see the most violent one. When I think back to Manhunt 1, it's the killing and the graphic nature of the scenes that I grew most fond of: I can't remember the story because that didn't matter much to me (and basically IMO was more of an excuse to hang the levels up on).

In terms of gore, games like Soldier of Fortune and Bloodrayne also come to mind. Unlike games like Gears of War, these games portray violent deaths of simulated humans, something that was the case in Manhunt 1 as well. Most important of all, none of these games was censored in any way.

Now, somehow, Manhunt 2 had to be censored. Manhunt 1 is famed for the stylish and gruesome executions that really send a shiver down your spine. Take away that aspect from the Manhunt sequel and you have no real Manhunt game to look forward to...

Was Manhunt 2 really that gruesome? Or is the public going crazy? I'm thinking the latter, when we consider the controversy (http://www.itwire.com/content/view/16298/1092/) a game like Mass Effect brings: show a simulated boob and ass, and you get yourself an ADULTS-ONLY rating... Come on, if that holds, people should be banning most music video clips that feature similar 'offenses'.

Well, take it from me, I've played all so called extremely violent and controversial games, sof, postal, carmaggedon, kingpin, thrill kill, manhunt, punisher...
And MANHUNT 2 AO RATED VERSION, the one that was leaked on the internet months ago and probably still on demonoid.com, is by far the most gruesome, sick and twisted game I've ever play.

Forget the retail version with his shorten executions, blurring, removal of exploding heads and beheadings ( yeah I know you can do it in the retail but once or two ), removal of ratings for each stage, removal of all pliers executions, removal of blood, blood spray, and overall gore, etc etc... this version is nothing and Manhunt 1 is more violent than it.

But the leaked one... now that's *beep* up and extremely violent.

I agree with you but still think it's not bad enough to be banned. But then again, I am a twisted sicko freak that loves gore.

I love gore so much, the leaked version was like a dream for me to play hehe, finally I was satisfied with the executions. In Manhunt 1 I thought they were weak.

If you love gore, check out the movie SNUFF 102, it's available for sale since 2 days on DVD.

I enjoyed Manhunt 2, don't get me wrong, but you are right. I beat it like in 3 days and I was only playing in short 1 or 2 hour bursts. There is no replay value like for manhunt 1 (no ratings for the levels to try and out play your last score, no bonus levels except for the stupid leo level that gives me a headache when I play it, no funny codes like in MH1)What a bummer. I enjoyed the 3 days though, even though I hated the helicopter levels.

I agree. I liked Manhunt 1 a lot more. I enjoyed the characters, the story and the adventure. I thought Manhunt 2 was crap compared to the first. I didn't even finish playing Manhunt 2, and I never will, nor will I ever buy it or rent it. Once was enough.

I was going to make my own thread on this, but yeah this one will have it covered.

I'm currently playing through MH2, the only copy I could get was a downloaded one...at least it's the uncensored version...ah well, I had no other option.

When I first played the original title, I could barely get into it.
Largely on account of not really being into stealth type games.
Of course I know you could play it without but it REALLY punished you for it.

Though, I got used to it...I liked the "running man" type setting of the game, the voice-over and commentary/gang dialogue was cool, if not a bit over the top...the levels were all somewhat unique as were the gangs.
The gameplay was challenging.
Then, for me it took a turn for the better in both storyline and gameplay, your escape from the show, the level with the reporter, being hunted by law enforcement and your final showdown against the commandos and the pig guy.
Loved how the ability to use firearms changed up the formula of the game.

It's been a few years now, but I'd like to play this game again.

Now, I am playing through the second.

It's "not bad", though for me it has a few shortcomings.
I don't know if it's just my memory but, this one feels a little more sluggish than I can recall the original one feeling...not too big an issue though.
The lack of themed gangs being replaced by different groups/cops/agency folk, well, not sure how I feel about that. Neutral?

My main issue is that the story just takes you from one somewhat unrelated place to another...I mean they tie it all together, but something just doesn't feel all that cohesive about it.

The storyline is "ok", though I saw the twist coming a MILE off.

The combat is perhaps a little better when it comes to actual confrontation in terms of survivability, though it's actually pretty bland.
The sneak and kill stuff, yeah they went for shocking, success.
Though I will say this - I don't like how the A.I works with your enemies.
Not only are they quite stupid, the same peering into shadows routine, but the way they walk around, getting stuck on just about everything, had one guy just walking around in circles.
It's also more difficult to sneak/kill enemies I've found, without getting seen or heard by someone else - in fact I'm convinced there's areas of this game where it's actually impossible.

The gunplay of this one - again, could be my memory but it doesn't feel quite as natural...kind of feels a bit dodgy.

The maps/levels are pretty boring and uninspired.

I'm not at the end as yet but I imagine I'm someplace near to it, I'm fighting my alter ego now, and have to get through the souls of those I've killed.

Like I said, it's an "ok" game, I don't hate it...though I'm not entirely invested in it as I was the first one. I'll play through to the end, but yeah I don't think I'll be bothering to give it a second outing.
