did anyone else find it bizarre that...

they reference other animes and stuff but censor it like it's a cuss word?

I found that really weird....

They do it to avoid lawsuits. Also, they reference Haruhi without censoring it because it's by the same studios.

but just name dropping doesn't equal a lawsuit in America does it?

I mean a character in a movie just saying "hey! let's go watch Jurassic Park!" wouldn't summon the lawyers would it?

It's the same as in America. Japanese are very sue-happy over there. Though clever writers are able to make fun of it by using censorship.

Ya never know. They might do. Jurassic Park was a big movie after all. As catstar said, they can reference shows and stuff that they're connected too. But the rest is fairly off limits unless they wanna pay the rights.

Carefull... thats copyright infringement, or at least Intelectual Property infringement.

It's simple. They do that so they don't have to pay the company of the game/anime/manga that she mentions. It's like covering or pixelating the logo's in tv, movies, news etc.

one example would be some of Kevin Smith's movies, they namedrop plenty of other movies without any trouble

back in 98 I did a titty comedy for Skinemax. Sex Camp, ya remember it?
