My ears are bleeding! - English Dub

I just watched a trailer for this on Aika R*16, and I personally thought the English voices were horrible! Does the whole show sound that bad?

I prefer to watch shows in the original language, but I'm always interested in hearing some of the English Dubs. They can range from pretty good to excruciatingly bad. Disney has done a great job for the most part, on the various Studio Ghibli films, while Pioneer/Geneon always seemed to do well also. ADV wasn't horrible, but they seemed to always use the same voices, including "Valley Girls" and Southern girls for certain Japanese accents. I got sick of hearing those same stereotypical voices in all of their shows.

If you try giving Patricia Martin's english voice a listen, you'll wonder why millions of viewers hate Patty's voice.

I actually quite like the English dub for Lucky Star (I tend to watch the dubs and the subs, just depending on whether I'm in the mood for reading subtitles or not).

The only thing I don't really like about it though is Patricia's english voice actor, but that's because it sounds really forced. It's only a small flaw for me though, the rest of the dub is pretty good in my opinion.

I agree, the dub for LS is high-standard (I`m only at ep.7) & as it`s a dialogue-heavy series I think it`s a good choice:I prefer older stuff like Kimagure Orange Road (although I find Hikari`s voice SO IRRITATING I can only watch 2 or 3 eps at a time) & Urusei Yatsura to be subbed rather than dubbed (as a Brit I`d like to formally apologize to UY fans for the awful attempt to dub it & broadcast it as Lum, The Invader Girl From Space on BBC3 a few years back as, to me, hearing anyone other than Fumi Hirano as Lum is just plain wrong).
Lol when Konata grumbled about different VAs doing a character`s voice in later audio/visual releases (example:big fan of Mona Marshal`s work, but Tenchi Muyo`s Ryoko should be voiced by Petrea Burchard, & as for Funimation`s penny-pinching by only having the subbed eps of the various strands of Tenchi Muyo available online..don`t get me started).
On the other hand, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya worked better for me in English...but the subsequent TMOHaruhi-chanS was funnier in Japanese IMO (again, big fan of Crispin Freeman, but the higher level of exasperation/irritation for Kiyon`s voice was better expressed in Japanese, pacing-wise).
Loved TMOHS`s Yuki Nagato in EITHER language, I must add.

P.S. the op credits to Lucky Star are RIDICULOUSLY catchy, makes me dance happily `round the living room every time I press play so far, & I`m a 40-something male!
