Could have been better

I really like the idea of alternate universe and ‘what if’ situations but I guess, in this film, my problem lies with the script and/or acting. If the aim is to portray ordinary people and the decisions they have to make in their life, (even if that is a slightly unbelievable thriller story-line) then you just have to make it feel natural. I think the director really strayed away from that tone, so in the end, that was what led me to believe there would be a final climax - and of course, that’s when you feel a bit cheated and disappointed! The dialogue: staccato, the discussion is unnatural, and Lynn Collins in particular gave a realllllly bad performance. From the opening scene I just didn’t buy into her character, at all.

However, I did feel the resolution of the thriller green story line tied in well with the yellow ‘will they/wont they have the baby‘. Think about it; you put off making the decision over whether or not to have the baby, you’re paranoid people will find out before you can make your choice, it’s constantly on your mind all the implications of an abortion, or of keeping the baby etc etc. and when you finally decide, yes, lets have the baby, it can be a hugely deflating moment because you still have a long wait to see any result of that decision. Just saying yes and accepting it doesn’t have an immediate impact, life still goes on. This directly parallels with the decision to throw away the phone, I mean how are you supposed to feel now? You thought you were going to be rich, instead you’ve been chased, almost murdered, a whole range of emotion that led to nothing. No instantaneous change. Maybe just a lingering worry for what the future holds (is this crazy Asian guy going to gun you down at your door?!!?)

Aaaah, not my favourite film, certain elements that had they been improved could have made for a really insightful film.

mhmm- well that's what you get for making it all up as you go along . . .

I know. Eurgh she was terrible!

I totally didn't get the end of the whole phone chase thing . . . bobby speaks to asian guy on phone and then throws it off bbridge. I was like . . . what? that was all they could come up with? what was the point in all the cchasing then??

I must say I like certain aspects of this film (mainly Joseph Gordon-Levit ) but ultimately . . . it was pretty 'meh' i guess . . .
